There is two day's a week in witch we will be allowed to hold this event unfortuniatly.
They are Tuesday & Thursday. From previous "Gong Shoot's" it useally takes 2-3 hour's. So I sugest we plan on being there around 5pm and start the event @ 6pm there for everyone will get a chance to warm up there rifle's and pratice a bit before we start the fun. As for a certain date anyone is good for me as long as it's not on easter. Post here or PM me with what you think.
Also check over the rules from last year just to make sure it's fair for everyone.
Rules for SKS GONG MATCH:

1. Target will be the 200 meter 10-inch Square Gong. (through the kindness of Emmab)

2. Shots will be done by sandbag rest.

3. You will have 20 rounds to shoot in 5 minutes @ 1 gong.

4. All hits count, as long as the gong moves perceptibly, or you hear the sound of the bullet impact as determined by the scorer/s.

5. Scorer/s decision is final.

6. One spotter/scorer per competitor take turns scoring for each other

7. Tie breaker: 5 round shoot-off, 30 seconds, most hits wins

8. Entry fee is 1 20-rd box 7.62 x 39 ammo

9. Most hits wins

10. Prizes!
1st Place Prize, takes all the entry ammo
2nd Unkown
3rd Oficial Russian Hat & a special prize to be revieled at the event

11. So far 1 class only: Open to all SKS from any country of origin, fixed or detachable magazine, stock or tacticooled, iron or red dot. Or if there is enough entry's we will have a telescopic sights division.

12. Since emmab made us 2 gong's we are going to have 2 shooting lanes.

13. Each shooter will be shooting at 1 gong depending were they are shooting.

14. Each shooter is allowed one spotting coach to assist him. This spotting coach is NOT allowed to score.

I've not shot SKS past 100 meters, how much does cheap surplus ammo (from Lever Arms in Vancouver) drop from 100 to 200 meters ?

10-inch gong at 200 meters is tough, my 5-shot group at 100 meters is about 10 inches.

It is fun, I think it is more a pray and spray shoot but sometimes the gong bongs...

And I am assuming it is April 6th, not August???

Get out there and practice. Start shooting at 10x10 targets at 200 meters to see where you are shooting and dial her in. There is also gongs set up at the range all the time. All it costs is 20 rounds to enter. It is a lot of fun. The people that placed top three at the first gong shoot did not even place at the second one, anything can happen.

How about a biathlon event ? You run 200 meters down range carrying your SKS, put your name tag in a bucket, run back, and hit the gong 5 times, the guy with the fastest time wins. Or fire 20 rounds, and each miss adds some time to your run time.

I'd go for the biathlon for sure.

Run? I obtained firearms so I don't have to do that! And it would be dangerous, you guys would be shooting while I was still down range :)

One thing to be aware of is that on , say, April 10, sunset is at 7:57 and it:ll be totally dark by 8:30. Talking to one of the RO's the other day, he told me that the lights don't reach out to the gongs too well , but that the hits from the steel core bullets did make some pretty sparks, heh.

BTW, near the end of April, the full dark will be close to range closing time, so depending on how long you think the match will take, it's something to think about.

Sounds fun! I will put it on the calender.
??APRIL 6 2010??
Unfortunatly after talking with Colin the head RO up there we won't be able to do this event on a weekend day due to the fact of the amount of people that go up there on a Saturday or Sunday.

c3pppo You are totally right so I will check for a date near the end of April. Although I don't think your Savage would have a problem hiting any thing. :p

Isn't every day at the Poco range an SKS gong show ? :D :dancingbanana:
Ya but you don't get prizes!

Yup, C3pppo's got an important point....specially for us with failing eyesight.

Towards the end of April or Mid May is better for the longer days. Our first shoot was June 23rd...close to the longest day of the year. We started late but still had lots of light to spare.

As well, so we are not rushing during the shoot, we can do it on a May Thursday, start promptly at 5:00 pm and use two lines. Those who want to practice can come earlier since the range is open the whole day. Range is closed to the public on Tuesdays before 5 pm.
