Cooper or Kimber?

I'm getting a bit older and need a lighter gun for stillhunting deer in in NB woods and clearcuts & I know the calibre I want. I want a gun that's well balanced & carrys with ease -- tried a Remington Mutntain rifle a few years back (nive rufle but carried like a pig because the balance was way off. I have owned a kimber classic and found it to be a good gun and quite accurate. I see in the forums that Kimber's are iffy on accuracy? Sort of like the looks of the Cooper but it's in the neighborhood of 3/4 of a pound heavier --- which would put it well over 7 lbs scoped where the Kimber would offer a gun at under 7 lbs.
Anyone who has experience with the classic series from either maker care to comment on accuracy/balance/quality comparison?

I have owned four Coopers and am very pleased with the accuracy and fit and finish.The balance and stock fit are also a good fit for me,but the Monte carlo style stocks fit me better than the classic style stocks.
 
I have a Cooper M52 Excalibur in 30 06 which is too heavy by your requirements (7.5lbs) but it is the most accurate rifle I own ( vs savage, remington, marlin, mauser, browning, CZ). However, my walk around NB still hunting rifle is a 50+ year old Marlin 336 in 3030 with a williams peep sight. light and fast on target.

It was a 270 --- never liked the calibre. Every deer I shot with a 7mm-08 /308/3006/246 never went far when hit in the heart/lung area. Every deer I shoot with a 270 runs furthur. Now guys don't start jumping all over me -- I don't want to hear how good your 270's are;) Besides, at my age I think I deserve a bit higher class gun -- that X-bolt was a shooter.

I own several of both kimbers and coopers. I like them all, but I would be taking a Kimber up the side of a mountain. The Coopers have terrific fit and finish, I particularly like the jackson game rifle. Kimbers chamberings are pretty bland these days, you can get a Cooper in .280Ai or .338-06 among many other chamberings. The new cooper I have seems to have a better trigger than the first cooper I got. The new kimber 84L might be a good fit for you also. I have Kimbers that shoot sub moa @100 yds anytime, plenty accurate enough on a big game animal at a respectable range.

Do what I did.... get 1 of each and play wth them!
