Dream AR Finished!! (image intensive)

I think the UBR is better suited for piston upper AR`s like this, the extra weight at the back helps with the overall balance of the carbine.

I agree with Big Red. Your just adding more weight. I would probably also ditch the UBR due to the weight factor as well. When I had my 416, I tried all kinds of different stocks and ended up with the ole CTR on there simply due to the amount of weight.

You should also try and get proper BUIS or the high mount for that micro. Right from Larue's page:

Other then that, very sweet rifle. I know how much you've probably sank into that thing.

Buy an MR223, toss the upper, take a dremel to the lower and presto, you have a perfect HK416.

Looks good. I am even more excited to get my "dream" AR together now. I have everything except the "package" from you and a mid length gas tube. I will start a thread once I get it all built for me.

Perish the thought! First, you're going to toss an HK MR223 upper worth at least 2/3's of the rifle (or $2,500)... and just junk it? It's only worth something to another MR223 owner as a replacement.

And I don't think it will be as easy as a dremel since the rear pin in the lower is offset enough that you'd have to drill a nice new pair of holes for the new pin - not too mention what internal issues you run into with the new placement. Then there's the issue of mag limitations with the HK lower (no PMags, for instance).

But we need the lettering on the lower too convince the fan boys!

The POF lower is superior in many ways, because it's almost fully ambidextrous, has an integrated/oversize trigger guard and will accept any type of Ar magazine (HK markings would be nice, but I placed a higher value on functionality).

True but you can alter the PMAGS to fit, you just have to shave off the rib on the PMAG, it has been done with little effort.

All of this has been done to the MR223 to convert it to have that capability from what I remember, but not too sure, so don't take that as fact.

CNC machine is definitely in order.

OK so the real question is how did you get the 416 upper? I thought that these were not exportable from the US?

Well, it wasn't easy - and it took over a year of waiting. Generally, they're not. I'd say you could probably count the number of HK416 uppers in Canada on one hand.

If one felt so inclined (I didn't). :)

You'd have some serious millwork, machining and cost to convert an MR223 upper to accept a standard AR lower. But why would you? The HK lowers are some of the best out there.

No just for the convertibility of switching upper on other manufactures lower es or vice versa.

Honestly, if I could get an HK416 lower for mine I'd be in heaven. The POF is the next best thing (finish is identical and the markings are very close).

Dude what you have is sweat, excellent for close quarter shooting and beyond!
Now get it in a longer barrel length and spend more money...Kidding.. When you want to sell it..pm me.:)
