Remington Model 597 VTR .22LR Should I ?

This may sound super stupid of me to ask. but there is a guy on another topic in the forum, who is claiming the VTR has been reclassed by the Canadian govt as being prohib. I'm not sure if he was using sarcassm and if he was, I may be alittle dense.
Anyone got an answer?

I have not got anything in the mail telling me its prohib. Its non res on my cert.

VTR!...

Non-Restricted, accurate, fun to shoot, and you can even take it hunting!...

No problems with mine so far. I like it as it is a lot less work than to get a 10/22 to this stage and a little less $'s, which means more time at the range shooting it.

Nice build are you going to put on a brake? We need fake charging handels

Im curious about the same thing that Untergang was asking.

I have been looking at the Sr22 and the VTR and found that the VTR have more than a handfull of complaints about failure to eject, where as nothing like that about the SR22. as far as i have heard.
What are some on the VTR owners opinions/thought?

I have not had really any issues with mine and I had one of the first ones. All I had to do is adjust the guide rods. I changed the extractor and the hammer just because I could. I beat mine and I don't clean it and it feeds everything. Lets face it I'm sure that there have been problems in the past with the 10/22 but it’s been around many more years then the 597 and people have short memories. People seem to do the same upgrades to their Rugers and then some and you know what their gun are no more reliable then mine

That's good to know. I have been really thinking on getting one as well but I have been a little scared away with the bad publicity I have read as well as the 6 part video I have seen on YouTube with someone trying to get theirs to feed right and just couldn't do it.

Thanks klrklr,

However my aim was to make the VTR light and small for treking... Adding more stuff just adds to the weight. With the stock collapsed, this VTR is about 3" - 4" shorter than it originally was, and about 1/3 lighter. A Brake wold only make this piece longer, and additional cosmetics only heavier. I suppose I could equip the rails with every known thing to make it tactical... But most of that stuff would be pretty useless to me as a country grouse gun... :)

With 2 inches over the legal limit this is about as light & perfect for grouse as I want to go ;)

I only handled one, but I have a basic 597 and love it - accurate, relabel and fun! VTR looks pretty sweet, if I didn't have a .22 I'd get one

oh i had a 22 and a .17 hmr but i still needed to get it and i am glad i did, i just want to get the hammer and extractor
