Wyoming antelope

Yeah, I just did that hunt last fall, lots of fun, lots of antelope, and lots of little cactus to crawl over. Bring gloves. Seriously, you'll probably at some point be crawling toward antelope using foot high weeds and the curvature of the earth for cover and the ground will be covered in cactus, it is a lot of fun though and they have some real trophy antelope. Just about any gun will do the trick as long as you're ready to shoot long with it.

what rifle did you use...what range was it taken at?

thanks

I used a pre-64 Winchester 70 Westerner in 264 Win Mag with a 3-9x40 scope. I took it at 400 yards, actually 398 on the range finder. It was a clean bang flop. I didn't go out and buy the rifle for this trip BTW, I owned it and it seemed the most suitable gun to use.

For projectiles I used a 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tip moving about 3350 fps. I'm not sure I'd recommend it, I'd expect damge at those speeds but because of the angle I did quite a bit of damage to the cape, I should have been more careful about that.

Two buddies used to do a bi-annual regular trip for Antelope & Mulies. They are both butchers by trade. Trailered a large old household-type freezer and generator to run it with, for the trip home. One used a 25-06, the other a 270.

Lots of antelope in Wyoming. Was down to Yellowstone last summer and literally seen hundreds.Stopped counting.......................Harold

Excellent question...

Don't ask me how or why, but a guide and outfitter has taken a shinnin' to me and is inviting me on a few amazing hunts... some he has traded for...

I didn't ask the name of the antelope guys,...

will find out though...

If it is the guys from Trophy Ridge, they are absolutely first class.

I put in for a group draw earlier this month - planned hunt is October 16th!!!

Friends of friends know a guy, so he'll let us hunt his couple thousand acre ranch for free!

Where are you thinking of going? If your area is in Eastern Wyoming, lemme know, as I have the landowners list for around Sheridan. You'll need it to contact landowners for permission to hunt. Some charge a 'trespass fee', which can be $$$ depending on the area.

I'm bringing my .308 and a set of Leica Geovids. :)
