Why aren't Thompson Center Contender Rifles more popular in Canada?

Would it be for recoil?

I really don't know, just a guess.

Here is the link again said:
"...now you may ask Y do I have 4 rings on the gun? Well I like the look of it. And I don’t want my scope to move lol… i know you don’t need to put 4 of them on a scope unless it is a big bore hand gun."

Orf. Hijack indeed. Can we talk about Contenders now?

I had a Contender Carbine in .22 Hornet. Nice enough rifle, and shot good, but I could never really warm up to the style and aesthetics. So I traded it for an Anschutz rifle for the same money. i think I have a better rifle now.

If you never want a second caliber, not a bad way to go. If you want to carry a .30-30 and have a .22 barrel in your pack, you're out of luck.

Actually, I did get a custom Bullberry barrel built for mine in .357 maximum. It shot good, but I found the switch barrel concept was a better theory than reality for me.

I have two non-restricted Contender frames and eight carbine barrels now.

1) s/s 16.5" factory tapered barrel in 22LR

2) blued 23" bull barrel in 204 Ruger

3) s/s 21" factory tapered barrel in 223

4) s/s 21" factory tapered barrel started life as a 30-30 now rechambered in 308Bellm

5) s/s 21" factory tapered barrel started life as a 375 Win now rechambered in 375JDJ

6) blued 18.5" factory tapered barrel in 10mm

7) s/s 14" bull barrel in 45 Colt

8) s/s 22" bull barrel in 45-70

Part of the reason that the T/C Contenders are not more popular is due to the strength of the action they cannot handle higher pressure loads like a 22-250/243/308/30-06/300 Win etc.

Anybody know of anywhere that carries extra barrels for the contender rifles? I picked up a Contender in 204 at Bass Pro a few months back and would really like to add a 22LR barrel for it. Seems like nobody carries them.

Quad rings were made for the handgun version, in hard kicking chamberings like 45-70. Compared to the carbine versions, the contender handguns have much higher recoil acceleration, and require a firmer than normal grip on the scope to keep it from moving under recoil. Silly and superfluous on the carbine version in my opinion. But if you think it looks cool, by all means go for it.

I wouldn't mind one in .30-30 with the Leverevolution ammo, but can't help think I'd have been better off with an Encore in .308 instead. Encore hunter packages in .308 with the scope are still only about 7¼ pounds and 38½ inches long which is very reasonable for a full rig with 24" barrel.

Get your 30-30 Contender and have it rechambered too 309JDJ which has a larger case capacity than a 308 Win and when loaded with lower pressures to almost equal 308 Win or a 308Bellm like I did that gives 300 Savage ballistics they are wildcats so their reloaders cartridge that use 444 Marlin brass for their parent case.

Actually, I'm thinking a .30-30 with regular pointed bullet types would be alright in one of those. 2200+ should be doable, and I know these almost 1000-count Hornady 150's I've got will expand even down around 1600-1700 FPS no problem.
