Hello All!

I have a P-14 I recently showed to a CGN member during a trade of Enfields. He says that because of the way it was removed, it is still possible to affix the volley sight, and the rear sight "look-see thingamabob". I would be interested in trying to aquire these pieces and restore this arm! The bore is minty fresh, strong rifling and no pitting.

I however, have no idea where to start. Here is call to all you gents out there, as this is my first ever restoration attempt!

Here are pictures, your assistance is much appreciated!

You are going to need new front and rear arm apertures, as well as the screw for the front sight, in order to do a resto. The rear aperture is easier to find. Good luck with the front arm and screw!

They show up on E-Bay from time to time but expect to pay dearly for them. There were some repro ones floating around out there a while ago, but I haven't seen them in some time. If you find a source, let me know. I could use a few pairs.

Hmmmmm.... these look rediculously easy to make.........

I still don't understand how you're supposed to use them though.

So, is that center piece with the two opposing gouges in it the hub with twin peened sections to hold the volley sight in place?
Seems with a stamp for the brass base and one could make these relatively easily.

I still don't understand how you're supposed to use them though.

Flip up the rear aperture, set the front dial to the desired range with the point on the front, and the knob on the front arm becomes the front aperture.

You use them just like the regular sights.

Numrich Gunpart has a few of the parts you will need, but not all of them unfortunately.

If you are interested, PM me and we'll see what can be done, if you want to contact them and get stuff set up, I am unsure as to what exactly is needed.

Now that's assuming that the Weedon Repair Centre did NOT grind the stud for the volley signt arm flush with the dial plate when they overhauled these rifles prior to WW2. In which case you will also need the plate.
If that is not the case, you will also need a wave washer under the screw to keep the arm from flopping around. Actualy the rear volley sight is still there, they just cut off the arm.

The rifle, in it's present condition is correct for WW2.

Hello there

iI have a p-14 that im about to sporterize with a full synthetic i have all the wood and screws there. I also have a p-14 minus bolt, complete only problem barrel shot out.

Just remember the P-14 long range arm is longer than the SMLE. The rear long range arm can be bought from Numrich Product No. 533990 @ $27.00 + S&H. It's best to combine an order with someone, they have a $25 fee for order processing they sometime charge.

And if one is to rebarrel a P14 you MUST make a relief lathe cut on the barrel where it joins the reciever. The barrels were installed by machinery and are VERY TIGHT. Just using a Large wrench on the barrel can cause a crack in the reciever if the above is not done. And that's what caused cracks in some M1917 recievers.
