Just ordered my Tavor today the waiting game begins

I know... "if you want a precision rifle go buy yourself a nice bolt gun". I know that most military rifles are not designed for precision shooting, but that does not mean they can not or should not be used for precision shooting. Look at what some guys do with the M14 or AR15. For the record I did buy the tavor for its more traditional usage, short range fun, but gophers are pretty tiny and it is nice to be able to hit them at a longer distance if the opportunity presents itself. Speaking of the M14, the $1500 2nd Generation JAE stocks have an optional barrel tensioner which allows you to adjust the tension it puts on the barel and optimize your group size - and it looks very much like the 'band' under the tavor handguard; the difference is that with the JAE the tensioner can be pulled down by tightening bolts on the lower side of the stock. If the band on the tavor barrel can be adjusted it might be a simple and free way to get a little extra accuracy.

Good stuff guys.

I'm all for seeing how accurate we can get these rifles. I'd like to try some gophers with mine as well. I think the 62 and 64 with a fairly hot load will be the ticket. I'll try loading up and see what I can get.

It's not a bench rifle that's for sure :D. However that sub .5 moa bench rifle would be hard pressed to match the Tavor in accuracy when shooting off hand. You're more likely to get the maximum accuracy out of the Tavor off hand than with a traditional rifle. I'd love to get them shooting sub moa but 1.3 is fairly good.

The band you guys are referring to is actually called the Sight Stabilizer Sleeve. Why I don't know, as it isn't attached to the sights at all but is the attachment point for the lower handgrip to the cocking bar guide. Maybe because it keeps the barrel in a constant position relative to the sights? Or something like that I suppose. But I digress...

It has a flexible strip of synthetic material in it that applies a bit of downward pressure to the barrel, and this could possibly be removed (or shimmed) to see how accuracy might be affected. If a fully free-floated barrel was desired the lower foregrip and cocking bar assembly could be removed, although cocking the rifle would be a bit tricky. The easy way would be to #### the rifle, remove the parts, insert a mag and hit the bolt release, but if you needed to extract a live one in the chamber I'm not sure there would be a safe and convenient way to do it. Probably best to not try this method now that I think about it.

Possibly just removing the synthetic strip would provide enough space to float the barrel also, but I can't remember how much pressure there was, and the barrel might just touch the metal sleeve then. Adding a shim should be easier...just flex the barrel downwards a touch and slide a bit of thin plastic into the gap.

Just some food for thought, and if nothing else trying different things is an excellent reason to go out and shoot more. :)

The only guarantees in life are death, taxes and confiscation minded bureaucrats ...

Your question might be better directed at the RCMP, only they know what they plan next.

That being said, I am confident that it is only a matter of time before their wings are clipped.

Well you need to be supporting the t97 owners then. If that gets through there isn't much to stop them. It's funny you say I'd like to see em try, when you know what they are doing to the t97 owners. Its obvious they have no problem trying. I see the t97 issue as a test, and if it works for em I can't image what is next.

First off. Most of us are following the T97 and many of us even had orders for one. Second, I don't like weak attempts at manipulation. When we are actually clued into what's going on and there is some sort of call for assistance with a few actual facts then I'm sure there will be lots of support. Until I have all the facts I'll be waiting.

Another thing, I seem to recall that it was insisted that an example of the Tavor be inspected to guarantee that they can't later turn around and change the classification. I'm not positive but I don't think a T97 was inspected before the classification was granted. Could be wrong about that though. This info was from a few years ago.

If you want to drum up support then so be it. But at least some organization please, ie an actual plan. Less of the obvious and weak manipulation attempts. It's insulting.

Im not trying to drum up support at all, and wasnt even thinking about it when i posted my original comment. Just was surprised at what seemed to me to be an ignorant response assuming "they" wouldn't or cant come for your tavor, and suggesting the t97 owners are "letting theirs go".

I had a type 97 on order for a long time. I switched it to the tavor in oct 09.

I fully support type 97 owners and hope to be one someday. When the battle cry goes out, I will do what I can to help.

We recognize that this forum is being reviewed by the anti's--- yet when they infiltrate our tavor thread and try and stir crap up to destabilize us as a group we do nothing!

Hands down; I love my Tavor, Ill move to Israel and join the IDF; if I have to; in order to keep it. I'd rather not don a beanie and give up bacon with my eggs, but If I have to hang out with hot IDF girls; wear a giant hairnet; to keep my Tavor--- I WILL...but Its my understanding this shipment took so long to come thru because an actual sample was sent in for testing; unlike lever arms t97.

Do I support the t97 guys? yes, and Ill back their legal team with my donations when they ask me to. But when I see two people constantly insulting people on that thread and then bringing the paranoia onto the Tavor thread, I have to ask myself. Why did they join CGN a few months ago? And why do they post negative comments to undermine us as a group? They are red herrings!! Thats right! BAN THEM! BAN THEM! IF you have nothing good to add to the thread, ask the mods to start up a red herring forum for you to spread your poison! Give them the duck test!
