So, about those M-305's.

I am getting very tempted to pre-order one of the new M-305b that Marstar is getting in. I have a few questions to ask.

The first one is about the plastic stocks. Assuming they are the same as the 2009 batch, How are they? Are they really flimsy or are they not too bad? I would like to get a USGI fiberglass one, but they seem to be sold out everywhere.

Also, it was my understanding that the reason Marstar took so long to get these in was due to quality issues? Does anyone know if these will have a little better QC then the current batch? Things like barrel indexing, head spacing, ect. I know its too soon to really tell, but does anyone have an Idea?

The synthetic stock on my 2009 Norinco m14 is very solid. I don't even know how and where to check for this "head space" thing.

Headspace is a chamber measurement.

I'll say this - measuring fired cases on my 2007 Norinco showed about .002" over minimal SAAMI specs, so I'm certainly happy at that price point. It's plenty safe for the way I shoot it, and hasn't hiccuped yet.

Not meaning to hijack, but the #### loss jokes are a 'slam' to the 1986 era naysayers I encountered at Moronto Gun Shows (OACA) when I asked around about glass bedding my $ 400 Israeli Surplus'ed TRW (yeah, all matching, too) M14. They looked at me and said, "Your #### will fall off. Why would you want to ruin such a collector?"

Anyways, you will never go wrong with these $ 400 and $ 500 rifles! Great fun, great addiction, and a most helpful group of M14 lovers in this forum.

You newbies should get a giggle about the ornery slagging going on in the Precision or even the Black Rifle forums. ;) I visit there every once in a while to remind myself why we are the best 'forum' on the CGNutz community! :D

So no idea on any QC improvements? Oh well, I will pre-order one anyways. Can't beat the deal Marstar has.

The quality is fantastic, right out of the box, half a can of brake cleaner to de-grease mine and off to the range(gravel pit) Im shooting juice boxes at 100 meters(paced out with odometer) 1 shot 1 kill. Mind you this is with an '09 Poly but as far as Im aware Poly is just the distributer, im sure the norcs will be just as good if not better i mean hell they have a bayo lug this time around.

These are magnificent battle rifles with both history - and a future role. Lots of opportunities for tweaking to make this rifle (not carbine) your own rifle. Most Norinco's and Poly's are great long distance shooters right out of the box - and at a bargain price vs. what our U.S. brethren shell out for the comparable experience. My advice is: "Be Prepared For a Little "Tuning." Tuning is part of the fun and responsibility of ownership. As Hungry pointed out, lots of folks here to help. Finally, there is one of our CGN sponsoring dealers who provides a money back guarantee, so I think you are all around in good shape.
