Due to not having the patience to wait for Robinson Arms to come out with a 6.5 G or a 6mmX45 I have been thinking about buying a 6.8spc conversion kit for my XCR.

I would be using this rifle/cartridge combo for hunting deer/black bear/wolves/coyotes etc but have been holding off due to fearing the ballistics will not be what I am looking for.

Has anyone had a chance to shoot/work up loads for their 6.8's, what loads are you shooting, have you chronographed your loads, if you have can you share the velocities you are getting?

Any info you can share will be totally appreciated and I have no interest in a 7.62X39 conversion for this rifle so please don't recommend it... :D

Not making a poke or anything but are we having an identity crisis? less than 12 hours ago in Reloading you post:

"I've been reading everything I can lately on the ballistics of the 6.8 and even earlier tonight looked up 7.62X39 ballistics and I have to say you make a very good point.

The more I think about the 6.8 ballistics the more I am starting to think that I am going to hold off on getting into a 6.8 conversion kit at least for a while now."

I'm confused?

Don't be...

I find that I am still thinking about what to do so I am looking for as much personal info/experiences as I can get...

I have been reading over at 68 Forum but find very limited info on 18.6" barrels the velocities I see are mostly for 16" & 20" but only a tiny bit of info/experiences on 18" barrels and what I do read is with factory ammo only.

One thing that I am completely positive on is that I have absolutely zero desire to have an XCR in 7.62X39 I'll pack a 14" barreled single shot T/C Contender carbine in 45 Colt before I'll pack an XCR or any other rifle chambered in 7.62X39...

No dislike for the 7.62X39 as a cartridge have no use for it as a hunting cartridge.

I have an SKS and appr 2000 7.62X39 it is a very good combo but I will not be spending $700.00 for an conversion kit for an XCR.

If you want a 6x45 that bad, why not get a barrel made? The biggest tweaks I could see to a setup like that would be the gas port in the barrel, and the feed ramps. You're only going up a tiny little bit in size... but then again, I could even be talking out of my ass, and my idea being shot down and mocked would be no surprise.

I've thought about it and have even asked Pat @ Wolverine to contact Robinson Arms about getting one and I've contacted both Terra & Alex of Robinson Arms directly if they would do a barrel in 6X45.

Alex told me that they have a few test barrels out being tested now, Pat told me that when she asked Alex he said that as of now there wasn't a big enough demand for the chambering so it is on hold. :(

So who in Canada can build one of these barrels it isn't as simple as threading and screwing a barrel into an action there is a ton of machining that would need to be done.

I sent an email to Dlask Arms Corp a week or so ago asking if he can make barrels but I have not had a response yet.

I even sent an pm to Terra this morning asking if she could supply a 20" - 22" without a flash hider 6.8spc barrel to get the velocities up to were I would be comfortable with it for hunting.

Her response was no...
