Hey everybody

I just bought my first sks rifle, I just love the way they look.
I picked it up from the gun show in Calgary this past weekend.... Now i would really like to find out some of the history behind my new sks. The only thing i really know about the rifle is that it has a chrome lined barrel, the guy who sold it to me said it was Russian, but i dont see any markings on it to confirm its Russian. My question is how can i find out more about my sks? When it was made, and is it in fact a Russian made gun......there are a lot of markings in lots of different places, I tried to get photos of the majority of them....

Thanks a lot!

If you go to the top of the Red Rifle forum there is a wealth of information in the Stickies or Google SKS rifle

Then post pics of it. What you don't find out for yourself in the stickies will be answered by people viewing the pics.

Google Yooper John - his site will tell you pretty much all you need to know about SKS rifles.

what do you see on the left side of the receiver and the top of the top cover?

Yep, Tula made SKS from 1955/56. It's been refurbished sometime after manufacture and was then issued again. Hope you enjoy her!

Very nice Laminate, Late Russian production, replaced magazine, Definitely went through rebuilding plant us it is painted bolt. Looks like the rifle is a bit used by someone judging by the stock . You should clean it up.

Yeah I bought the rifle for 300 , I think thats a good deal, the boar is in really good shape , ...What do you suggest as far as cleaning goes . can i clean the stock or just all the different parts....

Thanks lot

First of all strip the ugly black paint. There is a few post on that here. For a stock you need something to clean up the dirt. Be gental if you need to go to Home Depot and ask the specialist. Also you can search here. Some people strip the paint and re-do shellac.
