I have never ranted on here before, so I figured I'm allowed:

So I'm browsing the EE, looking for a lever action Marlin in 30-30. Now the EE has always been friendly. Winchesters, Mausers, they are always there, always for sale. But Marlins, oh wow...

I use the "search forum" function, and what do I get? 5 pages of Marlins! I'm in heaven! Except for the fact that 90% of the rifles are already sold/SPF, and have been for MONTHS! MONTHS guys!

Be courteous gents. Once the rifle is sold, kill the ad. Please! I just lost an hour of my life trying to find the 6 available rifles that were actually for sale amongst 5 pages of old, no-good ads. I can't get that hour back. I'm heartbroken and distraught. My excellent long weekend has now been ruined. f:P:2:

I'm guilty as charged. I find old ads as valuable as current ones. I mark it sold in the title line and in the ad and leave the price. I wish everyone would do that. I use old ads for market research. If I'm looking to buy or sell something, I like to look at older ads and compare prices and condition. It helps me decide how much it is worth to potential buyers. If a particular gun has 8 old ads, the 3 under $500 are sold and the 5 over $500 haven't, I'll know how to price mine.

Guys, I'm in tears ok? This is serious stuff.

And if you want to know the market price, just ask me. 30-30 = $320; 45-70 = $550

I'm gonna go get a tissue. philthygeezer understands.

you found one in the end though?

No, I became so lost and embittered amongst the ads that I gave up all hope, and have henceforth sworn off Marlins forever.

(actually I already decided that once Remington bought them out, but that's not the point. The old 1950's 336RC's sure are beautiful though.)

Calm down, click on one of the sponsors above and order a new one from them, the price will prolly be less then on EE, and not messed around with, you know you want to!!

Just ordered my 45-70 from Frontier tonight; feels reaaally good! Order a new one!!! Best of luck to you in your search.

First of all, no one uses the search function.

Second of all, if someone happens to try to use the search function, it's not going to work......much less give you five pages of results! This is why no one uses the search function!

 Now you've gone and made my Marlin cry!!!

Guess i'll have to run out to the range tomorrow and shoot her til she's happy again!! :p Shame on you!!! haha

I agree with Hansol. What is even more irritating is that people leave the add up and replace the price with SPF or SOLD thereby making the ad even more useless.

There is a lot of valuable information in old threads. Would be a shame to see all the ones that have been dormant for a month dissapear.

Getting rid of all old post in the EE wouldn't be soo bad.
