I'm gonna have to find a club near Pet that isn't run by the "old boy Skeet Club". I'd like to be able to practice my job skills (as much is legal)......
I don't need to preach to the converted or those 7.62 X 39 shooters who actually pick up their steel cases at the Range...but, everybody needs to pitch in to reduce issues related to all the cases left on the ground. I'm not looking to start a "but the rimfire guys are worse" discussion...just to focus on the problem of 7.62 X 39 case litter.
Every spring, there is some discussion at the Range about the mess of steel cases left on the ground and shooting pads ---- and one of the solutions always offered is to "ban" the SKS ---yada yada. The bottom line here, is that the problem is real and unless it is adressed, something will eventually gain traction ---and it may be unpopular.
Did you know that you can buy a nail magnet at Princess Auto for $15.00 that will grab those little buggers without you even having to bend over? Buy one, use it ...and the "ban the SKS" talk may never come up again...unless someone is seen "bump firing".
Hmm interesting thread. I prefer my public range. Its dirty, its shot up and its a little ghetto, but I like it. I can go, teach others to shoot, pick up hordes of reloadable brass, no anti-s telling me to "slow my fire", I can shoot surplus ammo etc.
The downside is that the public range in my area ranges from slightly disorganized to extremely filthy.
Banning a particular rifle, because you saw the steel case it may have fired, is like banning dogs because some of them bite. Its about the OWNERS. Not the rifles.
As for the neighborly noise complaints, the range owners should use their profits to invest in some extra sound barriers perhaps?
I haven't banned anything as I'm not a member of the section executive. The executive of the range has banned all FMJ including the calibres you mentioned.
Nothing in Pet for restricted. You'll have to go to Eganville![]()
Seriously? Is'nt this a fricken Army town???????? How receptive to "us" are the Eganville crowd?

Must be a fun club.
"Rapid fire" is a hard one to grasp I must admit. I'm having a hard time fathoming the difference between a single shooter shooting 1rnd/sec and 15 individual shooters each firing a round every 5 seconds. Or is every 5 seconds still too fast?![]()
Bingo Trevor
Our little slum, a jewel of a mess.
Claybuster what is this club of yours called? I'm very interested so I know where I should avoid as I would obviously not be welcome. "Old Boys Gun Club" maby?
Thanks to all who participated in this thread. I have to confess, that once a year I raise the "pick up your brass" issue and after a brief "airing" ...things seem to improve at the range. Probably, some folks who read the enivitable "exchanges" talk to others and make an effort to reduce the problem. This year was quite interesting in that it did not skid sideways towards the "they are trying to ban my gun"..... Thanks again! And remember, whatever you shoot....if you leave the place cleaner than when you came...they will always invite you back.
yes that it is , but on a nice summer evening during the middle of the week there is nothing like shooting at homestead , most times you have the place to yourself , you are out in the moutains , fresh air , and you can shoot cans if you want to !! I always take my stuff home with me from that place , it does get a little ghetto looking out there when the snow all melts away!
