i just got my MR223 and i'm waiting for my SCAR 16S but im curious what other ppl's thoughts are... i was looking for something other than my AR15 so i had it down to these 2 rifles, but alas i couldnt decide so i got both..

so what do you guys think? which one would you get?

If you're going to get both anyway, why not you tell us before our opinions sets your pre-dispositions one way or another?

Probably because this is a discussion forum, not a "tell me what to buy forum".

i am actually interested in other peoples thoughts and opinions, not just going to forums to write relpies to people in the hopes that you might irritate them

SCAR is an all around new weapon and is supposed to be extremely durable while the HK is an improved M4. That is not to say that the latter will not be durable, it is HK after all.
Personally I like the HK better, I've seen SCAR and handled it and although it looks nice from a distance up close its just ok.
SINCE you are getting both perhaps you could do a little review on here with pics and opinions?

You should have just bought the MR223 and a 308/MR308 or one from KAC in my opinion. But if you have a lot of cash why not, mind you still need mags ammo and so many other things like a good scope/aimpoint-grips,lights etc etc.

Congrats on your purchase.

The HK is ...well a HK so it must be a quality and reliable rifle. The big disapointment about MR223 is that, unlike the millitary version, is not compatible with AR15 stuff. That's why HK416 is so attractive to the US military. Compatibility with the AR15 lowers.
When looking at SCAR vs MR223 I'd be inclined towards the SCAR. Is lighter, better balance, very acurate our of the box. I like the fact that is a new, simple, no nonsense rifle built from the ground up and not an upgrade of older existing designs.

The MR223 in its current configuration is good for a Recce type carbien. The SCAR 16S will be more a running and gunning tool.

Considering no one in CGN owns a SCAR with the exception of Mark from Questar, and the number of people actually took one out to range and put it thru the paces is less than a handfull, getting an honest comparison between the two rifles will be highly speculative at best.

so the only thing I will contribute to this discussion is " I like the SCAR's colours" :p

The HK416 won the Marines IAR test. The gun that won has a barrel with the same length and profile as the MR223. The only difference is the full auto capability and a longer RAS.

This beat out the SCAR easily. Having said that the SCAR entry had a flimsy spring system that was designed to change the gun to fire from an open bolt when the tempature rose during firing.

The Marines shot the shat out of the entries and state that the HK 416 won easily over the other guns.

Maybe this will tell us all something about the two weapons. I like them both but think right now the HK system has the edge.
