Anyone use this? What are your thougths on it?

The biggest problem with these reticles are thay change size so to speak when the power ring is turned so they are only usefull on two power settings (commonly)

The range finder and wind hold offs work well for me, but only if I use the proper setting. I use mine with .308 and it works perfectly. Occasionally I want a higher power setting, so the hold points become practically useless.

Sorry I don't understand your comment about the reticle changing size for the Varmint Hunter reticle. To the best of my knowlege the only Leupold scopes that do this are the Mark 4 models with front focal plane reticles. All other Leupold scopes keep the reticle at the same size when changing the magnification. Of course the image will grow and diminish in size vs the reticle with the change in magnification but the reticle stays the same size. If anyone out there (Tony Gauthier?) can confirm or contradict this then please speak up. Phil.

with a little time you can figure out which crosshair intersection works with what distance at which power for a whole range of "known distance" aiming points
i have 4 of them and 2 of the less expensive long range (one cross hair with two little hash marks below)
Leupold just sends them with the info for 2 power settings thats all....

oh yeah, i love them...

Phil, I have talked to Leupold's Tech Dept about these. They give you two premarked triangles you can set your scope to use the reticle features, at any other power settings they are useless. You can of course find a point in the zoom where it suits your particular needs. Kinda sucks with the price of these

I use them on a .223 and a .22/243 Middlested. You may have to play with them a bit to get everything working for you. With the .223 and my warm but not maximum 40 gr V-Max load I use 14 power instead of the suggested 16 power and everything lines up after that.
There aren't any shortcuts to longrange shooting, so whether you are playing with reticles, drop charts and turrets, or Kentucky elevation you still need to shoot those distances and figure it out how to make your system work.

The distance between the graduations only work on the setting at a set power.A ffp reticle would work on any power setting.I think that is what he is getting at.

Now I get your point. Yes the use of the reticle for range calculation is magnification specific...I thought you were saying the reticle was changing size like front focal plane models. Thanx for the clarification. Phil.
