Breaking both shoulders and through the lungs and still can't get that Moose down...they sure are tough bastards...
Depending on how you hunt or what shots you take and how you define an ethical and humane shot might chnage this thought of mine,...
but if your moose are always taking 3 and 4 shots to just to get them down...I suggest you might want to spend more time at the range
a 300 WM is a deadly gun, yes sir,..and lots of power,..
but bigger guns don't compensate for lack of skill...
Not saying you're lacking, just that you are firing 3 and 4 shots (all of which you claimed were, what was it again ,
Now no doubt, sometimes it does take that second shot, or even the third when you stand over him (or a knife cut) but 3 and 4 double shoulder breaking double lung shots to get a moose down...
While I have witneesed a lot of moose being shot, and shot a few myself, I haven't seen too many occasions where 3 or 4 double shoulder breaking, double lung shots have been required to have the moose down...
Nor have I heard too many people use the term anchoring for their initial shot on a moose.. basically break his shoulder so you can keep shooting him..
Like I said, a bit more time at the range might help ya out in the field,.. if you're not careful you're soon gonna need to switch clips so you have enough bullets..
As for all the 30/30 shot moose that get away???
I have never seen a moose that was shot 4 times with a 30/30 to put it down... and I have seen a few..
I don't even know anyone who has shot a moose with 4
good hits.
but if they don't stop, ya gotta do something I suppose.
