Crow hunting... Anyone in the "century club"?

Whats the point of killing 100 crows in one day? Did they carry off your baby?

Some people like to shoot crows, I never really understood it I believe it originates from the days when people claimed they decimated game bird populations and crops. Too each their own though. My grandfather raised tame crows for awhile, smarter than any parrot and better mimics too. I don't shoot them as a result.

Yep crows, ravens as well as magpies are quite smart. The magpie can even mimic human speech better then parrots. Don't know why but my father in law hates magpies with a passion and will shoot them any chance he'll get.

I hunt them because it's "sporty" (as my old hunting book claims) and because the season is open year-round, not because of any particular dislike for crows. I find them very interesting birds, actually, and would consider having a tame one myself if it was legal.

I would love to have a season on magpies and starlings instead! Starlings especially are an invasive species and I would terminate as many as I could!

What part of the country are you from? AFAIK starlings are fair game in Ontario along with red wing black birds, brown headed cow birds, and crows.

Starlings are generally in the city, no? Which is why they aren't 'fair game'.

Seriously, the only birds you see in the city nowadays are crows, starlings (or grackles - what's the difference?), robins, gulls and pigeons. There used to be all kinds of different songbirds in Wpg when I was a kid.

The regs are online there are two lists of species, one can be killed if damaging property only on private property. The other can be killed anytime and anywhere it is legal for you to shoot. I kill both crows and magpies every chance I get, they are very hard on other species when nesting and I would much rather have nesting Orioles ect than crows/magpies. They actually gather in raiding parties on our property during nesting season, the noise gives them away and the the 12 gauge looks after it from there.
