Para-Ordnance 16-40 - One year and still no function

Para was your mistake when you bought a gun

An obvious uneducated prophet with a bad taste due to lack of education or ability to adapt and certainly no ability to adjust. A response like this is obvious ignorance to the world of firearms. To make a blatant statement such as 'PARA WAS YOUR MISTAKE' is the same as saying you could have a cure for cancer. You are an obvious skeptic for whatever reason, yes there maybe issues with some Para's but as an owner of many and have numerous friends with many, I say put your money where your mouth is and meet me at the range. Bring what you will, and I bash none, I have all rendishons of 1911s, st, sv, colt, para, casp, even norc, so for YOU to post such a simple response, leads me to believe that you are no more than a small minded troll with little to know firearms knowledge!!!!! As an owner of many types of firearms, posts like this , in my opinion , are a simple waste of time and effort by simple people with an axe to grind with no basis or factual conviction. :)
get a life, I will put my PARA against anything you have. Not all in the world is perfect!!

A friend of mine shoots M5 IPSC and I had a chance to shoot it as well. Very nice gun for the money. Points well, weight and balance are nice, smooth.

:) great response

:) great response

Thank you and apologies, there is good and bad in all but an A..h..le statement tends to offend me and although I advocate none in particular I find solice in most, the OPer had a valid claim and it is sad to hear, my comments where directed to a fool with no basis or subjection, just words to be hurtful with no merit or validity

No not exactly uneducated. I to Have a S+W Norinco and Para 1911 Bone head and the only one i had issues with was the Para and there still is issues with it numb nuts.As for customer service i live 30 miles from the factory when they were in Canada and i could not get the time of day out of there service department. If you love Para so much send me a e-mail and you can buy mine.

I feel you pain.

However, I bought a Para Ordnance P13-45 limited,in 2000 10 years later, over 25000 rounds, beside basic cleaning , I don't do much, still shoot 2" groups at 25 yards.

I bought my P16-40 10 years ago and I've been shooting IPSC standard class with it ever since. The gun still shoots better than I do and even with my ham fisted home gunsmithing (replaced front sight with fibre optic, installed mag well) and something in the range of 10,000 rounds, it is extremely reliable.

I can't comment on why yours is causing you grief but like others have said, people either love paras or hate them.

Its almost up to par.

Safety is milled and tight.

I have two power extractors with the original honed and cleaned, and a back up to replace if need be.

mag release extension is on

mag well is on, and honed

plunger spring replaced

I will admit it feels nice in my hand, and it appears I have worked out the bugs.

I shouldnt have to on a $1500 pistol, but at least it is g2g now.

Next is trigger job with a honed sear and hammer. Also going to pin the grip safety. Oh yeah, and I need to trim the magwell to fit into the box....

I'd take you up on that offer. I'm in Vancouver. I've had a similar experience with PARA and I collect 1911's. I know that virtually any of my other 1911's are not as poorly built. In fact I couldn't get rid of my PARA fast enough.

Yes indeed there are some top rated shooters shooting PARA but I would bet they are not off the shelf guns. I just can't see it after hearing all the bad PARA stories and having gone through almost the same thing with them. I seriously doubt it. It bothered me that they were all about the "PARA USA" and not one mention by them that they were proudly Canadian. I guess they weren't proudly Canadian in the end when they made the move to the USA. Then they have the nerve to stamp a Canadian flag logo on a 1911 and call it a Canadian Forces GI edition and command a premium for it? Oh please.....they can't fool me twice. ;) My local dealer won't even carry their products anymore due to the multitude of bad experiences.

go to 1911forum in the para section... you will get skinned alive. Para was once a quality firearm...

I agree with you about everything else though.. They have gone to s**t. They sold out to the USA and apparently have a US military contract, which has caused them to alienate the general public.

Dont get me wrong, I hate Para now... but I didnt first buy my Para on a whim.
