That would be the dream, but I'd take the other one as well. Great job with the photoshop Deck.

It should be noted that short barrels make more sense for the 7.62 x 39 round than they do for the 5.56. That is, if you are happy with the ballistics of the 7.62x39. They tend to lose much less velocity than their 5.56 counterparts.
2100 fps is what I've read for M43 out of a 10.5 inch barrel.
 
Personally, I'm thinking of putting a BUIS on the new NEA rail that clamps just ahead of the gas block and then machining the front sight off my gun, while leaving the bayo lug and flash hider plunger intact. Should give it that FN-FAL look.
 
With that short a barrel could a manufacturer leave off the folding stock and call it a pistol? Could the 10 round "pistol" mags then be used in any VZ 58? Wouldn't that be interesting?
 
Of course, the grey area exception is if the VZ is already one of the restricted ones such as a CZ2003 Hermex 58S. then you can potentially shorten the barrel if you don't change classification.

I don't want to get this argument going again because it's been covered many times but the above statement is not correct.

You can't alter (shorten, cut, whatever) an already restricted rifle barrel, I repeat, you can't alter an already restricted rifle barrel. That would make it prohibited.

You have to buy a manufactured barrel, this is the only legal way.

I have heard otherwise from a Canadian company who got the info direct from their CFO.

Long story short, no cutting down to shorter than 18.5 if above 18.5, but if it's restricted length already, you can shorten it.

"According to the FRT notes, if a barrel is shortened by a manufacturer, it is OK. Here is the wording:

This is the current interpretation of the FRT lab.
BTW do not rely on anything the CFC staff say over the phone. At the very least speak to a tech.

So by this I'm guessing guys like Dlask, Alberta Tactical could possibly alter an existing barrel, but parts manufacturers like Neit and the like? or regular gunsmiths? Not so much...
