Ruger SR9 good or bad

I love this assumption that because I don't like it I must've never seen or handled one! In fact, I have. Not only have I seen and handled many (all of them at Al Simmons had in stock in the summer) but fired one.

It's a combat handgun that others have a history or reputation of doing, and doing better. SR9 is nothing more than another product jockeying for position in a market. Just like Dole is to Minute Maid.

I dont know if you have been keeping up with the SR9, or have just been busy watching Dole Vs. Minute Maid :D but SO far it has been giving very impressive groups (ex under 3" @ 25 yrds) and is already building a solid reputation as competeing with Glocks place in the world. Dont knock it because you didnt shoot it enough to figure it out, I'm sure the one you shot wasnt tuned to you. I am so far very impressed with the SR9 and will most likely be purchasing one as well. (Little tired and feel like :nest: :D) Hope you find the gun for you. P.s. Apparently right now the SR9 comes with a coupon for the SR9 model laser sight from VERIDIAN LASER. Looks really nice and is designed to fit the SR9 perfectly! VERY COOL! Although useless for the most part... except that it is a green laser, which can burn, so watch your budys face when hes not paying attention and you put that laser on his target for a minute, he turns around and his targets on fire! I shot one last week; it was still brand spanking new and the trigger hadn't had time to smooth out. Sights were nice, it felt comfortable in my hand, and my only issue with it was the trigger, which was a little heavy and squashy. I hear they smooth out with use, though.

+1

I put 5 magazines through a buddies last spring, it was " alright " but I believe it was fairly new ( maybe 200 rounds down pipe ) haven't tried it since though . . .

My best friend bought one two years ago and still loves it. I own an M&P but have shot the SR9 quite a bit. I find that for the money, it was a good buy. Not that I would EVER trade my M&P!!!

Sometimes things with little track record and virtually no local support become very expensive even if they are cheap to buy.
Is it reliability and ease of getting parts/getting it fixed/customized that you are looking for?
Or just price?

There is a saying I've learned early in my life - Cheap person pays twice!

Picked up my SS SR9 as an impulse buy and couldn't be happier.
Put 500+ rounds thru it this afternoon and no issues. The triggers not so bad after a few trips to the range.

d:h:

totally subjective... what's right for me may not be for you and really it's preference - all the big players have produced junk before -
ie. colt 2000, Beretta 8040 cougar, S&W Sigma, etc... after Glock kicked their cans in the competition to build a better mouse trap
everyone has played catch-up...most of it is "borrowed thought" with innovation...

my 2 cents is this - if it fits your hand well, points naturally, and you like it you're more inclined to spend time shooting and enjoying it.

Dollars to doughnuts aside I prefer the P7M8 but it is it's own creature and requires a dedication to mastery - and it is a jealous mistress -
but heavy, lots of springs under those grips and it heats up when shooting more then 50 rounds at a time and it is totally reliable.
But I like something from all the main players out there including Ruger's SR-9.
