M14s Op Rod Spring Length?

Hey,

Anyone know what the range in length the OP Rod Spring is supposed to be. I just got an M1a replacement spring from Fab Sports and noticed that it is longer than the stock Norc one. I saw this discussed for the M1 on the weekend and thought that I may have to trim it down as mentioned there.

Any ideas?

I just measured, and it looks like the Norc one is right on 15.23"(as close as I can tell with a regular tape). The Fab Sports M1A Spring is 15.5". So it looks like that it is still within the 15.23" +/-1" range or do I need to cut .25" off and grind the end flat? When the new spring is installed with the Marstar match SS spring guide, it binds slightly when working the action and I was hoping that if it was way too long that shortening it may help. The original Norc spring with the Marstar guide rod was quite bad as was the case with the tighter inside spring dimension.

I have also read, and was told by the The Doc, that the Marstar guide rod can be a problem with binding and that the lower flat section that has the retaining pin hole (closest to the receiver) needs to be filed down for a Non-spring binding fit. I was trying this out and, before I go too far, is there a significant amount of material that needs to come off of the Marstar SS spring guide?
