I remember being a thread here where the manufacturer? was responding and talking about his product. Are they still being brought in. Were they considered good (I did see something about their over 100k round testing and gun still worked fine)

The K100 was sold under STI and re-named as GP-6.

I had a K100. I sold it when I bought my GP6. Both are excellent guns.

The current STI badged offering is a nicer gun, more refined in trigger and mag release.

I own a GP6, Browning HP & XDM40...of the 3 the GP6 has the best trigger, little recoil, easy to clean. Nice shooter.

Only downside is I hate the slide release, I can't reach it with my thumb, have developed a habit of hitting it with my left thumb as I'm grabbing it. Hey canuck, got any suggestions for an aftermarket fix???

You are having a problem with the slide release? Opening the gun,or closing it?

Closing is a no brainer. This gun will close automaticly on a fresh magazine if you slap in a fresh one.

Opening, well I would just adjust my grip, moving the gun into the crook of my fingers so my thumb is closer to the slide stop.

So it's suppose to close automatically when you put a new mag in?? I was wondering about that, my other pistols don't do that, caught me off guard the first time it happened. Cool, I was wondering if I had a problem and was actually putting the mags in easy to prevent it...if that's suppose to happen I don't have to worry about the release!

It's not SUPPOSED to close automatically, it just often does because the jarring motion of putting in the mag often jars the slide stop free. There's no actual mechanism intented to do this.

As for the slide release being too far, this conforms well with a good 1911-style grip where your shooting hand thumb sits atop your support hand thumb... that shooting hand thumb might keep pressure on the slide stop release if it was further back. Your instinct of hitting the slide release with your support hand thumb is the correct one and is the fastest way (rather than repositioning your shooting hand on the F/A in order to reach that release) to release the slide, place your support hand in it's proper position and return your sights on target.

It works for me,each and every time. So much so that I regularly toss the old school rulebook out the window. I regularly plan to run dry during a stage, knowing that I can count on an easy reload during even brief movements between target arrays.

Hmm, I checked out an archived page from Grand Powers website and it turns out that this actually was a design consideration.

I tried it today and it worked 20/20 times. Also adjusted the sights so I'm now shooting just a bit low and to the left...better than the next target to the left last weekend!

Try shooting with the other hand for 50 rounds, and see where the gun prints. Low and to the left is often the result of a flinch.
