rifle sights on a shotgun

What are you going to use it for?

I have an 870 with rifle sights that I bought for Multi-Gun.

I was going to put ghost ring on the rear but after the match I attended in Kamloops I am thinking I won't bother. It was super fast. The sights have a white front bead and a white diamond on the rear and they were super fast to use.

You might want to try it before you spend your hard earned dollars. :)

I bought my Rem870 express as a combo with two barrels. One is a vented waterfowler and the other is an 18 inch smooth bore with iron sights. The sights are actually pretty good, I can consistently hit 4 liter water jugs at about 70 yards depending on the slug. I think the ammo is the weakest link when it comes to distance. If you're not shooting slugs, there is no point having the irons, IMO.
 
I really like the rifle sights on my 870P, I use them like an OEG sight up close so that they're as fast as a bead, and like you normally would for more distant targets.

They work good enough for me that I would never even bother with any other kind of shotgun sighting arrangement for other than wingshooting.
 
I use an Ithaca Deerslayer Police Special. It has factory iron sights. With a reddish colored acrylic triangle for the front sight. And a patridge style rearsight designated the "LAPD" wedge type rearsight.
It is non-adjustable, but very sturdy and reliable.

we dont have oppossums, just straight Possums

they are a total pest, eat the native trees, multiply like crazy .. very destructive..funnily enough over in the penal colony (australia) they are protected

we kill them for the fur as well .. about $100 nzd per kilo .. takes about 20 possums to get a kilo. its very soft and warm


and yes plenty of turkeys. we usually go out n shoot mobs of them with the .22's but if theres a shotgun handy, sure.. or a .308

we dont have a turkey season like you guys do.. and we dont hold a very high value on them either

thats why i giggle when you fellas talk about a specific turkey shotgun :p and extra full turkey chokes n all .. its rubbish :p .. cylinder bore with 2 3/4 #7's work just fine
 
Dammit, I have to go to New Zealand and spend a couple weeks blasting pigs, turkeys, possoms, etc. I am very envious. That and suppressors on rifles. What more would I want?
 
I use a Benelli Supernova for my 3-gun competitions and I have the rear sight of a Ruger 10/22 machined into the rear of the vent rib just in front of the receiver.

when I'm using shot, the rear sight is flipped down and I don't see it.

When I use slugs at a range further than 50 yrds, a quick flip and I have a rear sight to align with the front.

Accurate enough for my use.

Anything up to 50-60 yrds, I'm pretty accurate with just the front sight and a solid cheek weld.
