When I was looking to get a Hand Cannon/Conversation piece I was ready to buy a DE in .44 mag! However I thought Id try one first and got a chance at the range. My thoughts are this:
Pros
- Hell of a nice looking gun, fit and finish is beautiful
- Huge gun and gets alot of attention
- Very unique, and you dont see too many
- Could shoot all day as recoil isnt that bad
Cons
- Way too heavy for my likeing
- Way too bulky grip is literally like a 2x4(makes glock feel like a compact)
- Light recoil(when Im buying a hand cannon I want that heavy recoil)
- Can only shoot full power loads and jacketed bullets(due to gas system)
Conclusion:
I reload and enjoy making up many different loads from plinkers to monster loads. I also would like to use lead in a .44 magnum as it is a hell of alot cheaper than jacketed. I also want that holy #### feeling when I fire it, or give it to a noob and they feel a full power .44 mag for the first time. I decided that the Ruger Redhawk was the best option for me. I can reload from mild to wild with no worries about function, and cheaper lead is an advantage. Also I could afford a nice stainless model and all the reloading setup for way less than the DE. Last but not least everyone should have a wheelgun, and why not make it a .44 magnum. If you dont reload .357 is cheaper but if your reloading I would say .44 mag is probably the most versatile cartride there is. Bought a Lever in .44 mag to and can do anything with one reloading setup.
