I have been traveling and just received a letter from van loan and the jist of it was that RCMP are not in charge of interpreting the law but enforcing it. A classification may be given to a rifle because an importer improperly informed the RCMP when importing and later RCMP found information to the contrary and a rifle may be converted easily. Basically. The blame was on the importer and the RCMP were exonerated. I don't think much help is going to come from the conservatives on this.

I doesn't... But writting letters is kind of a hobby of mine... So I figure I'll start taking shots at the RCMP
to bring attention to the fact that they are a self-serving institution... and they are not acting with the public's best interest in mind. (Ever wonder how much these appeal will cost the government? How much court time will be wasted?)And since we are dealing with a bureaucracy, I thought we could play the bureaucratic game with them.
They have an ombudsman... and it doesn't take much to get the "paperwork" going... and the best part, it doesn't even have to be gun related.

I have sent a letter to my MP about this BS and have been told that he will be sending me a reply shortly (ya right) . I see the future ramifications here and will gladly contribute what I can. I cannot believe that this is happening in our country,taking legally acquired property from law abiding citizens is so wrong on so many levels. Sorry to hear you guys are losing your rifles...total and complete BS!!!!!
Rumor has it that it took them 8 months to figure out how to get it to function on full auto. I guess someone considers that to easy. Maybe everyone had to go on vacation before they could get started.

The 'we get the toys' and 'you will submit' attitude goes way back.

As unfortunate as this is, if you think this is the start of some sort of mass confiscation of semi autos you're sadly mistaken. There is evidence pointing that these guns were readily convertible to full auto, and the RCMP hasn't banned and confiscated any other new semi-autos coming in, so why would they solely choose the Type 97 and nothing else?

The T97 were produced specifically so they could not be converted to full auto - they are not a rifle that has been modified, they are manufactured as semi auto only.
As for "nothing else" can you say "test case"... as in if can change registration with little in the way of due process and access public funds for reimbursement for the T97 then can use the same strategy for Mini 14, M305, Tavor, CX4... "we wont tell you how in the interest of public safety but these can easily be converted so here is tax payers' money now surrender your firearms."
Don't forget the recently announced High Standard model 10 shotguns also have suddenly become prohibited for the same reason. And the High Standard 10A, and 10B have been restricted since the late '70's or early 80's
