Does winchester still make the 1300? I have found a local guy selling a win 1300 in 20 gauge and was thinking about picking it up for upland use. Any idea how heavy this would be in 20 gauge with 28 inch barrel? He was asking $425 for LNIB condition, but I thought this was a bit steep.

Kevin.303 had one in 20 gauge on here for $250 a while back.

I paid $250 for mine in 12 gauge and it was barely used.

If it is with Win. Chokes and has a vent rib $375-$400 if condition is as stated if it is plain BBl with fixed choke $250. ish if it is fixed choke with vent rib $275-$300. Paying $250 for a 12ga has nothing to do with evaluating a price of a 20ga.

If you can buy it for $350-$400 it would be fine better than the Express and the Mossburgers unless you jump up to $ 600 for a BPS it will serve you fine .

my 1300 20 ga weighs approx 7 lbs, no vent rib.

Wow that much? I found one guy on a google search that said the 20 gauge weighted 6.25 lbs and the 12 gauge version was 6.5 lbs. My dad has the 12 gauge version and I think 6.5 may be a bit of a low estimate considering my 870 weights 7.5. But 7 lbs for the 20 gauge seems high. Does it have its own scaled down receiver or does it use the 12 gauge receiver?

The 1300 was last manufactured by US Repeating Arms under license from Olin in 2006 (FWIW, Olin still owns the Winchester trademark). FN Herstal who makes most of the Browning line now also makes/markets Winchester branded firearms. The new Winchester Speed Pump which is billed as the next step in the evolution of the 1300 is made in Turkey by Yildez.

The 1300 has not been made for several years, which is a shame as it was/is a great shotgun.

I agree with you $425.00 is too high. If I were looking I would be willing to pay in the $300-325 range. They are not collectors items as probably hundreds of thousands of them were made over the years.

I just did a quick search and the consensus seems to be that the 12 gauge weighs about 7lbs. I see some people saying the 20 weighs 6.5 Lbs. By the way if you buy the 20 be prepared to throw your 870 into a marsh or bog,you will wonder why you put up with a Remington for so long.

I already know that. Like I said, my dad has a 12 gauge winchester and after going back and using his a few times I know what you mean. I plan to keep the 870 around for waterfowl since its 12 gauge with 3.5 in chamber. But for upland, which I do mostly, I will use the 20.

Yeah, I'd say more like 6.5 pounds. The receiver is aluminum, as I'm sure you know. 20 gauge guns don't come up too often, but I wouldn't pay 425 either. Offer $350 firm.

It comes with 3 chokes though. I have to assume those additional ones are worth at least 20 bucks each. $350 for the gun plus 40 for the chokes brings it up to 390.

$390 is not a bad price. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks - it's your money and as long as you are happy why worry what the internet experts think. I've paid a premium price for a gun that i really liked and never regretted it.

Yes, my 1300 20 ga weighs approx 7 lbs - "approximate" means "about". I don't have a precision scale but my digital batroom scale indicates my weight as 6.8 lbs heavier when i hold the shotgun. Mine is an early model XTR with the fancy front wood that adds a few ounces. Weight is almost identical to my 12 gauge 1300. The 20 gauge and the 12 gauge share the same receiver.

is the 1300 as good as a rem 870?

The 1300 is a good shotgun and maybe the smoothest operating pump action made, BUT experienced gunsmiths will tell you it does not stand up to abuse like the 870 rem can. Note that i said "abuse". I have well over 10,000 rounds through a mod 1200 that has never had a failure of any kind and is still tight as the day i got it. I prefer a 1200/1300 for hunting but if i was looking for a fun gravel pit gun to beat up I'd go with a rem 870 (not the express). Hope that's helpful.

Not enough info for a proper answer. Which of the many different models of 1300 20ga. is it? Hard wood stock, Fancy grade, the plastic resin stock. plain barrel, vent barrel. Does it have the screw in choke? and the chokes? A mint Walnut with screw in chokes, vent rib would be a good deal for $425.00

I believe he already said it was vent rib and c/w 3 choke tubes.

They are certainly not the smoothest pump in fact they are stiff they have inherent double feeding issues they use a 2 pc, plastic throat system in the mag tube that tends to wear the screw that holds the plate to the bolt which the action arms attach to tends to break I know this because I did Winchester warranty work for years that being said for the hundreds of thousands out there they are a serviceable firearm and like I have mentioned for $350-$400. would be a fine shotgun.
