just recived the new cabelas catalog, they have three different sks for sale, one @260,the next has origional stock matching numbers for 300,the last one acording to cabelas is a rare colectors item because of its unstamped year of production on the receivers for 400, i am thinking that its a 56-57. are they a colectors item or is this a common gun

Surprisingly common this year. I dunno where they came from all of a sudden, but Lebaron.ca has/had them for $185 as well (http://w w w.lebaron.ca/english/specials.htm, look under "Hunting", then "SKS Military gun"), and almost everyone has 7.62x39 in the big wooden crates. It's stripper-clip-fed and from what I hear, not a bad little toy. Not sure of the accuracy (apparently nowhere near the M14 or Norc 305, as these are still "accurizable"), but the few people I've seen at the range with them had big smiles on...

i have four sks right now just wondering about the collectability of the 400 dollar sks from cabales.I know 49 and 53-54 izhvesk are sought after by colectors not sure about the 56

Most of the ones that came through the local store here were the late 55 and 56 production unmarked rec. cover rifles. I would not class them as being rare, they just charge more for them because they have laminated stocks. A 1953 Izzy is many many times more rare...

I called Cabela they are sold out for the ones for 399 there are a waiting list for those. The other two grades they said that the their rifles are in best shape. Does anyone knows how those pined?

Probably franken-pinned.

The letter series late Tulas 55/56 are worth more if unrefurbed in the original stock. Laminates will bring more than hardwood. About the only thing franken-pinned I'd pay $400 for is a non-refurbed 49 or early 50 Tula

i purchased a 54 Izzy from p&s for 325 and a 49 tula for 325.The 49 has a laminated stock, nice guns. The ones at cabelas seem a bit pricey in comparison.

I disagree. Some SKS rifle are worth $400 and more. Some quick examples:

-non-refurb 1949 or 1950.
-Yugo M59 non-refurb in unissued condition.
-Probably a Romanian or Albanian SKS in Canada.
-East German SKS
-North Vietnam SKS
-North Korean SKS

Never say never ;)

What I don't get is how Cabela's is selling out of these when the same rifles are almost $150 less at Lebaron?

I can understand paying a premium for a handpick from a specialty dealer, but not for "another one of those" from Cabelas...? Am I missing something, or are they selling them as truck guns to the non-internet savvy Fudds?

Well what I don't get is how they sold out the ones for 349.99. We sold out the $240 deal right away and we are almost sold out of 269.99 and what we have left is 349.99 left in stock. How does Cabela do it? Also I wonder if those are really good quality and how those pined. If anyone had a picture that would be great.

your right it as a blade still a nice rifle, non crome barrel ,all matching except the stock of corse everything seems correct for the period.Waiting for westrifle to receive their 49 sks. Have my name on the waiting list for the real thing if they get them.Wandering off the topic a bit here ,back to cabelas sks they are pricey. Labaron has them hard wood stock for 189.00,laminated stock for 229.00 ,quite a difference.I guess the catolog still is still a good buying and selling tool for a lot of people ,not everyone uses the net.

Thank you for putting your name on the list. There is a lot of people that responded to us. It is on it's way and yes it is the real thing I went through many crates to find those for you guys. There is some that will be hardwood originals and some with replaced laminated stock ( old stock were cracked or damaged by age). I decided that I grab them in any condition as there limited quantity available.
