VZ 58 Shorty's??

Clobb,
That quote doesn't specifically mention barrels that are already under 18" before shortening and that's the crux of the matter.

I took it from this thread:

This is the final quote from mudpuppy who researched the issue.

Ok a lot of people are still not getting this, so here are the rules for cutting the barrel on your long arm simplified.

Anyone can cut the barrel of a semi-auto firearm, regardless of class, to no less than 18.5" (470mm).
Example: You cut the barrel on your M-14/AR-15/VZ 858/REM 1100/AK-47 etc. to 18.5" it is still legal. Cut them below 18.5" and they are PROHIBITED.

Anyone can cut the barrel of a non-semi auto firearm (single shot, bolt action, break action, pump action), regardless of class, to no less than 18" (457mm).
Example: You cut the barrel on your Win M70/REM 700/Mossberg 500 etc. to 18" it is still legal. Cut them below 18" and they are PROHIBITED.

NOBODY can cut barrels below these limits, period.

Nobody can cut the barrel of a restricted rifle/shotgun below the defined limits (18 or 18.5"), even if it is already below these limits, doing so creates a PROHIBITED firearm.
Example: You cut the 16" barrel on your AR-15 to 14", that firearm is now PROHIBITED.

Nobody can cut the barrel of a 12(x) prohibited rifle/shotgun to below the defined limits (18 or 18.5"), even if it is already below these limits, doing so creates a firearm that is PROHIBITED outside of the 12(x) classification.
Example: You cut the 16" barrel on your AK-47 to 14", that firearm is now PROHIBITED outside of the 12(x) class.

The only legal way to get a shorter barrel for your firearm (below the 18/18.5" limits) is to purchase, or manufacture one, at the desired length.
Example: You want a 16" barrel on your shotgun, the only way to legally do it, is to buy one that was manufactured at that length (not modified from a longer barrel).

Barrel extensions, such as flash hiders etc., DO NOT count towards barrel length, they ONLY count towards overall length (OAL).

If you have any questions about this or any doubts about this information contact the CFC and ask to speak to a firearms technician.

Clobb,
Unless someone gets iy in writing from the CFC we're still left with conflicting, credible answers.

Regardless, a new manufactured barrel makes it a moot point.

Any updates...?

So, any updated word on when these short barrels are going to be available, and pricing info? I need to know how much $$ I need to set aside, and how long I have to come up with it :p

I suspect that the problem with info here is that we have a few parts manufacturers competing for the VZ 58 market and they don't want to tip each others hand. I sent PM's to two of the largest posters here and didn't even get a response. Not cool.:(

The option always exists to just get a barrel made. All you have to do is buy an appropriate blank and, if you have a lathe, make one - or have a licensed gunsmith do it for you.

Then you need said licensed gunsmith to change the barrel out and phone in the new length to the CFC on your behalf so that there is no question that you cut it down yourself.

Of course, waiting for a mass-produced barrel will likely be cheaper ;)

Is there an estimated time of when this will happen si I can stop looking at this post 3 times a day....

We should be able to commit to a release date shortly. There are a couple samples out being tested, we want to make sure that we are selling the best product out there. with that said, we dont want to commit to a solid release date yet for fear being lynched by angry consumers................" burn the witch, the barrels are not here yet"..................

Are you able to give any specs? Chrome lined? Length? Will they come with the front sight installed? Threaded for flash hider/muzzle break?

Will you be offering combo pricing with barrels bolt carriers, flash hiders, etc...

What I really want to know is if I can buy a complete kick a$$ rifle from you with all the bells and whistles already attached?
