CZ 452 American dovetail

I finally got around to solving the issue with the 3/8" dovetail on my CZ 452.
The 3/8" standard scope rings are made to a 60 deg. included angle which does not fit on the CZ 452 dovetail which has a larger included angle (unknown).
Because the dovetail size is correct at the bottom(3/8"), I simply used a 60 deg. triangular file (a small one with one side smooth) and filed(for 2 hours) in on both sides until the scope rings(Warne 7.3/22) fit properly. Now the rings fit flush on the bottom of the feet and the angles mate perfectly.
If anyone else has this rifle (in .17HMR & .22 WMR) then you should have a closer look at the fit of your rings. Keep in mind that if the fit isn't proper then you won't have repeatable and stable mounting.
Cheers

I had problems with Leupold 3/8" rings and switched to Burris Zee rings...They fit like a glove. Leupolds seem to give a few people problems on the 452 Americans.

Cheers!!

In my past experience of owning these rifles it has been a 50-50 shoot
that you will either have the 3/8 dove tail or the 11mm dovetail base.
It is far better to take the gun with and fit the rings to your .22 than the mail order option that loads of guys opt for...to save a dollar or two.
Sounds like you have found a viable alternative to my method though.
There is nothing more frustrating than talking to the guy behind the counter and being told this is what you need only to go home and find out the guy is wrong.
Hmm, one last bit of advice is you might want to put some cold blueing on the exposed metal that you have files then again it maybe aluminum rings that you are using so a blk. jiffy marker might do the trick.

I also tried the Burris rings along with about 6 other makes and models. All of them would go on but none of them matched the dovetail angles so as far I'm concerned they didn't fit.
The problem was in the rifle itself. Now solved.

Maybe quality control was on break when your rifle went through, good to hear you fixed it though. I had a real headache trying to get rings to fit proper. Burris set was about as good as a ring could fit on my 452.

Cheers!!

Wow,, I grabbed a set of $15 scope rings, slapped them on, put a Zeiss on and was shooting tiny groups in 20 shots..

Part of the problem may be that they are 11mm on the 452 not 3/8th. Some of the .22 have a clamp that can rotate so adjusts for the difference (Warne & Burris IIRC).

The Warne rings that I have do have a reversable clamp which will likely fit the smaller 11mm when flipped.
The CZ 452 American rifles chambered for .17HMR and .22 WMR have the larger 3/8" dovetail. The problem is in the angles which make the size at the top of the dovetail too big.
I don't believe that my rifle was a fluke from the factory.

I am looking at a similar problem; trying to order rings for a 452 Varmint. I believe the Varmint has 11mm dovetail, so I am going to order the Leupold rings, but I just have to decide on medium or high.....

Good to see the OP bringing this up to help out others experiencing similar problems.

Have a look at BKL rings. Supposedly made to fit CZ dovetails!

My CZ 452 supposedly has a 3/8" dovetail and all the rings I tried were supposedly supposed to fit a 3/8" dovetail. I called Warne and spoke to the tech guy there and explained my situation to him. He was very confident that their 7.3/.22 would fit the CZ 452 so I agreed to have a set shipped to me.
Here are the photos taken showing the two different clamp settings.
The first picture shows it set for the 3/8" dovetail.

This next picture shows it set up for the 11mm dovetail.

The last picture shows the fit after I filed the dovetail on the rifle.

Now it fits.

My 452 American in 22LR was supposed to come with 3/8" dovetail. I agree, the width is ok, but the angle is different than the standard 3/8.

Edit: Nice pics showing the problem. Your fit now look perfect. You are brave.
