SKS Scope mount problem

Hi,

I recently bought an SKS scope mount tri-rail off ebay to find out I had to file the tips to make it fit. After doing it, it eventually fitted but the bolt carrier get stuck at multiple point (unless I hit it hard with the palm of the hand...). My question is, should I expect that ?? I would NOT fire it like that since im 100% sure it will jam, should I do something else to make the bolt carrier slide correctly in the cover, the documentation say nothing and the seller is an idiot ?

They are oversized to fit a variety of SKSs. I always have to file the angles to fit each gun. The cover needs to be a tight fit to stop wander. I also reccomend the H style buffers to reduce impact on the cover. Find where the bolt hits & dress the cover with emory cloth, I have seen this issue sometimes before.
 
I used the same rail/cover you bought and it had major fitment issues. I had to file and grind and sand and polish untill it fit. The result is a very tight fitting cover that when used with optics holds zero great. One thing---never file or modify the rifle to fit this cover, only the cover it's self. If you take the time and effort you should get it to fit.

Did you only touch the tips or other part inside ??
 
The tips plus the entire inner rail that the tips are part of. They were a little think to the grooves in the friearm itself. With the job slow and steady wins the race guys. Take your time.

I have the same rec. mount and have had no issues with carrier function. It should make no difference when properly installed. Works good as long as it is tight, hammer tight. Just bought a Choat mount though...
 
Ok.., I spend the last 2 evening filling, grinding, sanding, polishing and yet it still jam. I'm about to try to find a gunsmith to do it for me. Buyer beware, those mount are DIY project that you pay for.

I mesured with a digital caliper and the width of the receiver cover and its quite diferent than my original. Also, I found that its the top part of the receiver cover that touch the bolt carrier and so there is no way for me to be able to grind at that position effectively. I tried with emory cloth without much success...

If someone want to sell me one that will fit I would be happy to buy it, but it must fit !! (russian 52 bougth at lebaron)
 
sorry to hear about the hassle arcaner unfortunately it didnt work for you. but the information you provided will help other gunnutz with a similar brand of rifle. I ordered one and will try to make it fit on my norinco when it comes in will post here and keep your thread alive. stay tuned
 
I had one of those NCStar scope mounts as well. But the problem I had was the cover latch would not go in at all, and I had to file it out. It kept going in at an angle and must have been a manufacturing defect. Then I had the the problem of the carrier hitting the underside of the cover so I just went back to iron sights and scrapped the whole idea of using a scope. I find that it makes the scope sit to high and makes the line of the rifle look off. But that's just my opinion.

Now if they only made a receiver cover with the rail attached to top of it without the little riser ... :p

I have exactly the same problem, the bolt carrier hit the underside of the cover and I'm about to give up... I tested with oil on the underside cover and the bolt carrier was full of it when it reach half the way of the cover. Maybe I can resell it as the world ugliest 30$ paperweight. :bangHead:

is it possible to buy an extra cover and tap a rail on it and add side bolt to attach to receiver ???
 
If you want to mount a scope in my opinion you have three options.

ScoutScopes mount.

Weaver Converta mount

Choates mount.

I have used all three, all have their pros and cons, but the Weaver Converta mount won hands down.
 
If your really want to put a scope on your SKS, I would go with the suggestions that bjs7293 mentioned ... either the Choate or the Weaver Converta mounts. I would go with the Weaver mount myself just on pricing ... lol.

Now that I've seen this, I think I may go back to my original thinking and mount a scope on my SKS.
 
same here, NCStar mount + scope from ebay (seller from Manitoba) work a bit with filler to make bigger hole for pin, now different problem, cant make scope look strait as it shoots too left and adjustment already set to max, had to play a bit with mount it self to make sure it points in right direction. also often it become loose
 
Red lock tight for the bolt's. Also a laser bore sight will come in handy when adjusting the proper depth for the bolt's as this will effect your windage. Just make sure to do this before red lock tightening them. As for bjs7293 I have an new creation that I just did up at my uncles shop that is sort of like the scout mount. Maybe next week I'll make it and get you to test it out ;)
Of course if it's not to much trouble to ask. :)
