My brake is pinned and welded right now but would like to remove it and install a flash hider...I have a couple of questions i would like to throw out there if its okay?
My reason for this is i want to reduce the noise for people shooting next to me...With the brake i understand the gasses push to the sides to reduce recoil but noise is increased for the shooter and people beside. Would a flash hider keep the gases moving forward increasing recoil but reducing noise to the shooter? Is this change worth it?
My next question is...Does the new flash hider have to be pinned and welded also? Is it a big deal if its not?
And finally does anyone have advice for cutting this thing off without damaging the threads?? Thanks in advance

Just out of curiosity, why do you want a flashider? A good brake really does reduce recoil. A flashider can reduce flash, but do you shoot much in low light?
Don't you and the other folks on the range wear hearing protection?
 
Its my Robinson XCR and I guess it had to be pinned and welded for either export or import not sure?? no its not a low light thing ....its a courtesy thing....This gun is loud when your shooting coyotes and gophers....I dont think the recoil on a 223 is that bad anyway without a brake..

your at a shooting range, expect there to be some noise. its like going close to a volcano and expecting it to be cold. i wouldnt worry about it personally. but maybe im just a douche

No I could care less about the range.....everyone should be wearing hearing protection anyway...so your not a douche lol Couple weekends ago 6 of us were shooting gophers. we were all standing on a hill watching them ...so I opened my bipod and layed down....this local guy I didnt know layed down 10 feet from me ..Everone was shooting .22's and maybe he didnt see what i had but when I took a shot he got a blast of noise...Guy started running around making a scene and I felt bad....so if i can quiet it a bit I would be happy..
 
To answer your questions, no it does not have to be pinned and/or welded on for Canadian law or for any mechanical reason. Most likely it had to be that way to conform to US export laws. It can be removed by machining and the muzzle threaded if it is not that way under the brake.

Could a collar be made that slips over it and blocks the ports for times when you want to be civil but lets you remove it and take advantage of the brake when not concerned about the fudd next to you :p

Just thinking aloud...

If your XCR is a .223 that thing on the end of the barrel is a flash hider, not a muzzle brake, so there's no point taking it off. The 7.62x39 barrel comes with a muzzle brake.

If you want to tak the flash hider off, take the barrel off the rifle and use a sharp file to take off that little tit on the underside of the flash hider. Then turn the barrel over, rest it on a piece of wood and whack it with a rubber mallet till the pin falls out. You can then unscrew the flash hider from the barrel and just use the rifle without it. Be careful not to damage the threads on the end of the barrel afterwards or you won't get your flash hider back on.
