I have an older bausch and lomb balvar scope here its been boxed up for years. For some reason its all gold flakes inside of it there even seems to be some on the X. Anyone know what would have caused this or if there is any warranty on it?

1. I don't know what the gold flakes are.

2. Bausch & Lomb made very good scopes, so it would be nice to salvage it if possible, but they got out of making riflescopes years ago. They sold the rights to their name in firearms optics ( they still make contact lenses and other non-firearms items) to Bushnell, who kept the identity going until quite recently.

3. You should enquire of Bushnell whether they will honour any warranty on it. If there was a lifetime warranty, they may just take the easy option and exchange it for whatever they consider to be their current "equivalent" model. If there isn't a warranty, they may say send it in to their warranty/repair centre to be assessed and they may quote for a repair.

Good luck.

BAUSCH AND LOMB and BUSHNELL are the same company. BAUSCH did not want to be associated with hunting so they stopped making this and switched it over to bushnell.
not sure but i believe it was pressure from anti hunters that brought this about.

B&L once owned the Bushnell brand and sold it off about 20 years ago. Bushnell brand continued with B&L name under a licensing agreement for a few years after that, on the Elite 3000 and 4000 series.
Balvars were made prior to the Elite series.
Bausch sold off a number of assets to concentrate on Eye Products.

the flakes inside are probably brass from the turret gears, had this happen to my nikon, its from either not cleaned properly to bigin with or from the constant up/down or left/right adjustments in the turrets. should be covered by warranty.
