Ruger 10/22, Savage 64F or Marlin?

Marlins are inexpensive, accurate due to microgroove rifling, either tube-fed or magazine fed, bolt "last-shot" open

Savage is less known, but I'm sure they are reliable. May be some problems with the magazines feeding.

Ruger 10/22 ain't what they used to be from recent reports. The older models apparently are better, but they aren't as accurate as the Marlins out of the box in general. THey are highly customizable if that's your alley.

My vote is for the Marlin 795 or 60 due to the low cost and great out of the box accuracy and function.

Agree/\

The Marlins are accurate because of the the Microgroove barrel. Can't think of any other reason a semi-auto can be so accurate.

With my Marlin 60/Nikko Sterling compact 4-32 scope(cheapo), I get 1.5 inch 5 shot 100 meter groups with cheap bulk Winchester dynapoints, on a calm day.

I've had a 10/22, had a Cooey 64B and still have a Lakefield 64B. The 10/22 lived up to its "can't hit the side of a barn" reputation, but the 64Bs (which are the similar to the current Savage 64B) are fun and reliable shooters but not as accurate as the Marlin 60.

To be fair the 10/22s, I saw a brand new one at the range that was grouping 1 inch at 50 meters, not bad really.

I haven't shot a Marlin 795 but it should be as accurate as the 60, IMO.

Bought the Marlin, should be here Monday. Thanks for the input everyone. Its got to be at least as good as my JW-14, so I'll be fine with it.

Well both your 10/22, and the "not bad" one at the range were not good examples! My 10/22 can do 2MOA easy, rapid fire with a red dot.

I am almost certain that I can get about 1MOA with a magnified scope @ 100m.

I can only bring my opinion about the 10/22, based on experience. You can customize it, tweak it, mod it, kick it and it is still dirt cheap and reliable. The only issues I've had have been the aftermarket magazines, in particular, plastic feed-lipped ones.

A great starting rifle for plinking. Too late I guess as I see you've ordered the Marlin.
Have fun!

Between a 64 and a 10/22, I'd take a 10/22 because the ruger magazine is awesome.
Between a 64 and 795, I'd take a 795 cause I don't have one yet ;)

I have another 795 on the way to, didnt want my GF shooting my Papoose so much. Had an older 70 I should of kept. Love the marlin platform, rimfiretech. stuff is real nice and tech or skinner sights add accuracy. Theres a bullpup stock available for the 60 and 795 I wouldnt mind trying out either. The synthetic stock can be made into a nice storage compartment, I did the papoose first. Still working on it but doesnt look to shabby. My buck knife is held tight by the foam, might just keep it in there lol.

I love my Savage 64G, only had it for a couple months but I am very pleased. Picked it up on the EE, not sure how old it is.

Very accurate and reliable! I've had some feeding problems will HP bullets especially when using the 2 new mags I picked up (I think they just need some wearing-in) but other then that I've had no issues. I especially like how simple and easy the rifle is to take apart and clean. It also very accurate and shoots sub 1' groups at 50m when I do my part. For the price its hard to find a better semi-auto .22
