So you in the market for a .40 that you can get started shooting sports with. What are you buying and why?

I'm thinking

From personal experience, I'd advise you against that route.
1) SP-01 Tactical has a decocker and it's gonna change your grip while shooting, no good.
2) SP-01 Tac in .40s&w is hard to find in Canada.
3) you cannot shoot in Standard in IPSC with that gun, so it makes little sense.

I'd advise you to get either Shadow for Production div. or 75 SA in .40s&w for Standard if they have to be CZ guns. Both are excellent, btw. You can use Kadet kit on those.

why buy a .40 cal when ammo is just about expensive as a .45...

buy a 9mm or a .45 instead... frankly a 9mm is the best option to get into the shooting sports with because of cheap ammo.

I currently have a buddy who started with a .40, then he bought a .45 ..... the poor guy cannot afford to shoot anymore, a case of 1k of 9mm is $254 at my local store, .45 is over $500 for the same $1k..... and .40 is not "much" cheaper then .45

I cannot see how expensive is shoot a 40 cal if one know reloading, it may be ten to fifteen bucks more than 9mm for a thousand. brass is all over the place at the gun range if you willing to pick them up from the ground. A CZ 75B 40 cal is a very sweet shooter.

for plinking only, i would grab one . i purchased a s/a tactical sport CZ chambered in .40 for standard division.

i know elwood elps has 2 SP01 tactical in 40 listed in his line-up.

i'm thinking about ordering one, i already have a shadow for production and the TS in .40 for standard, i obviously love the brand.

SP01 tactical 40 , only the extractor may give you some problems, but it's a 30-60$ affair, i dont mind.

as i play with the option of a glock20 in 10mm with an extra barrel for .40, it'll be between the CZ and the G20, but that said, at CZ the SP01 series is maybe more suited for the mighty fourty with a heavier front than the B'' series.

i've shot the B chambered in 40 with medium loads , and it kick bad in the front.

working a low load may help the B.

As far as I understand, if it fits in the box with an empty mag inserted, and the gun has no comp. or optics, and is 9mm. or larger, it's good to go for Standard Division.

Oh, I guess I may have been a little confused, I thought only SA guns were to be used in Standard.
Well, sorry if I was wrong.

Without a safety you'd have to use the decocker to lower the hammer before holstering in Standard. Then when you draw either use the first shot double action.

OR.... just pass on the decocker Tactical version and get the regular SP-01 that has a safety. Then it's just like a SA gun that happens to have an extra feature.

Cool thanks for the advice guys. I wont be reloading so I guess 9mm is the way to go. I like the cz cause it fits my hand better. The glocks grips was uncomfortable for me.

I like my Glock for IDPA..... I'm not sure I'd use it in other disciplines.
Is this your first handgun period? Glocks are also super-reliable and super easy to clean and maintain. Less hassle, more shooting.

That said, if you don't like the grips, not much to change on a Glock, unfortunately.

Then you'll be shooting in Standard with a minor PF. Not an issue if you get all Alphas but it'll definetly hurt your score as soon as you get a few Charlies and Deltas.

If you're going to stick with 9mm for budgetary reasons then just stay in Production. But even then it's not a cheap hobby.

Well, sorry if I was wrong.

You can use any gun that fits in the box with a mag inserted in standard division (no comps or electrical optics),...you either score major or minor,...regardless of DA or SA....

PRoduction is DA first shot,...or DAO,...(no comps,..no box for production in IPSC) and everything is scored minor regardless of calibre. (min 9mm)
