nightforce reticle for hunting

I have 3 nightforces and they are all the same when using them for hunting in dense bush
the one I use mostly for hunting is the 2.5-10x32
the reticle is very hard to see in a branches background but when looking at a one colour surface such has deer I am able to see it better and even there its hard to see compared to a regular reticle let say from Burris leupold etc which are much thicker
have you had the same experience

Obviously the reticle will not be as heavy as something like a Leupold heavy duplex. That can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on circumstance. In thick cover, it will be harder to pick up. I have found that the illuminated reticle can help, as your backdrop is usually darker. Both methods of NF illumination are quick and easy to utilize. Have you found any benefit to this ?

Your only other option might be a reticle swap but to be honest, I am not sure what reticle to recommend to you. Even the reticles that NF recommends for hunting (like the FC-2), can be easily lost in dense or heavy backgrounds. The illumination really saves ass here.

since I shoot all year and hunt only for a week or so in the fall
I will live with the issue
but I must say that my NF are superb for target shooting which I do all year and hunting in open fields
will give a try with the illuminated reticle and see thanks for the tip

I find that the mildot reticle isn't too bad. Just make sure you focus the reticle to your eyes before you start, and you should be good to go.

yes they are focus
on good thing is than being thin even if they double a bit in different shooting positions because of my glasses they are still small to be used effectively

I also have 3 NF scopes and find the 2 with the nrp-2 hard to use for hunting, however the mildot isnt bad at all.

I would try one before you send out for the swap. They are great for close work but I am not a huge fan for mid- to longer range shooting. The center of the reticle is a little busy and may not be to your liking.

what about the velocity or NP 1 Big game?? I like the looks of the velocity..

mil dot

I have been using mil dots for a few years now and like them a lot. What I do is use the dots as sighting positions. I use the cross hair as my 100 yd zero and then figure out what each of the dots equals in distance/ POI. For example, cross hair = 100 yd, first dot = 320, etc. I also swear by illuminated reticles just for the simple reason that when i can't see the reticle (black on black) turn on the light and there it is. I like the NF mil-dot because it is hollow and can be used as a "peep" sight.
