I hope everyone will excuse me for my newness but what's the conflict between the 9 and 45?

I know that one has lower velocity and better stopping power but could someone fill me in?

Chevy or Ford?
Stratocaster or Les Paul?
boxers or briefs?
real or fake? (boobs)

That's a reference to what used to be every second months cover of just about every gun magazine out there. The other headline was "Is the ###### model xx the best of the Wonder Nines" Seriously, for about five years in the late 80's early 90's every magazine except perhaps American Handgunner had some variation on those 2 headlines. It's an interesting reference here though, since those were the days before the internet.

PS, does anybody know what happened to Jan Libourel? :D

Its just a joke. Basically, the most common argument in the pistol world, is 9mm vs 45, so to poke fun at this argument, they named the pistol forum what it is today.

FYI, it used to be called "things that don't shoot rifle rounds". But the current title is better.

No conflict, the 45 is a better gun all round and the 9mm is used by the cops and the army because it is cheaper to shoot.

:nest:

I'm a 9mm person. The only country in the world with a fixation for .45 is the USA. But then again, they have a fixation for everything oversized, supersized or super Hemi powered crew cab.

Its personal preference. A million people will give you a million copypaste internet facts about expansion, penetration, 1 shot drop, hydrostatic shock, shooting drugged up natives, shooting drugged up gangbangers, shooting bears with .22's etc etc etc.

Shoot what you feel comfortable with after balancing your options, pro's and con's.

maybe they need the power of the 45 to penetrate all those layers of fat...

9 or 45? Well, it's like choosing between Wilma Flinstone (45) and Betty Rubble (9). Sure I'd go with Betty, but I'd be thinking of Wilma.

btw a double plus internet score if you guess where I got that from.

UGGGHHHHH Its actually the opposite! The .45 has less penetration, but leaves a larger wound cavity and packs a heavier bullet. The extra weight and mass is what gives the stopping power. This is why the .45 acp is a bad choice on anyone wearing a vest and might be a reason why military dont use it anymore. If we are talking about standard FMJ then it really makes no difference in my opinion. If I was in a situation where I needed a gun for defense I would rather have more ammo. Loaded with the right hollowpoints the 9mm gets the job done no questions asked.

I thought the 45 won this battle back in 1911 :D

It's simple. It's a gun forum so we aren't allowed to argue about hockey teams or religion. So the 9mm vs .45acp was all that was left.

Then there's a few seriously warped sorts that want to start trouble by championing the .40S&W. We others that are enjoying our 9 vs 45 arguing BOTH hate those types....

And don't even get me started on those hoity toity revolver types with their "MAG-NUMBS" that mince around with their noses in the air thinking that they are above the rest of us. Their holier-than-thou attitudes they have just because they don't need to bend down and retrieve their brass really makes me MAD..... MAD I TELL YOU! MAD! ! ! !

:D

What conflict... .357 kicks both their a$$'$ LOL
No seriously I have both AND a .357 to boot.
All three get along nicely and I fondle each one equally.
