It seems that we won't be seeing more that 50 Scar16s rifles in Canada anytime soon as FN U.S.A. will not be shipping anymore than the original order...

I talked to Tim at Questar today and he confirmed my worst fears...
If you are one of the lucky ones to be on the list of 50 and by blind chance don't want your Scar, by all means PM me and I'm sure we can work out a reasonable arrangement to benefit both parties...

... Why?

I was under the impression than FN was pretty cool when it came to selling firearms in Canada.

I was under the impression that Questar was getting them from belgium, hence the folding stocks but i guess i thought wrong.

Well no hope in hell for Scar-H non-res.

to make things even worse, we will probably not be seeing any other U.S. rifles such as the ACR, POF, or LWRC......

the U.S. State Department has closed the door tight....

One positive thing i did hear though was that Questar will probably be looking into the possibility of getting the Scar rifle from Belgium..

I can't see how it could be any more difficult than importing H&K from Germany, albeit the price might be alot higher...

It's a shame. LWRC look mighty tasty...

Sorry, I would like Questar to confirm this rumor.

Over the past few weeks we've had on-going discussions with US State Department and I'm sorry to report that they are once again tightening export restrictions on a number of firearms and accessories. According to State Department there were a number of export permits approved this past year that "slipped through the cracks" and were NOT indicative of an intentional change in "Export Policy". New permits are once again being restricted in a similar way to what was happening a year or two ago.

Here are a few examples of what the new Export Permits can NOT contain:

* Firearms chambering 5.56NATO or 7.62NATO ammunition
* Rifle Barrels under 16"
* Flash Hiders/Suppressors
* Folding, collapsing or telesoping stocks

We've also been told (specifically) that the SCAR is considered a "military type firearm" and new export permits for this gun will NOT be approved.

This will mean that existing inventories on many of these items will not be replenished so "get em while they last" is obviously something to keep in mind. We will keep you informed as we get more info but we expect to see shortages again on many of the most popular AR stuff due to these renewed restrictions.
It's no rumour; they're the ones who announced it.

Sorry, I would like Questar to confirm this rumor.

The fact that US State Department has just stated that no new permits will be approved for SCAR rifles is what we posted on our website... so that part is correct.

As for the rest of the information stated in the original post, I would start by saying that we don't have anyone working at Questar named "Tim" so let that be an indication of how accurate (or in this case how inaccurate) the various statements were.

Rumours are not facts and "he said/she said" gets distorted and embelished to the point where it no longer even looks like the original information that may or may not have been given. Who knows who this fellow spoke to at Questar... who knows what he was actually told... I can say that most of what he stated above is news to me :)

Thanks for rumour-mongering and :stirthepot2:

there was a post a year or two ago about how there was not going to be any more COLT AR's coming up to Canada because of the State Department.....well that was not true.

Give it some time, they will come.

Exactly... this is the problem with people spreading inaccurate information and often "adding" to the facts until the story no longer has any truth to it.

What we said was that US State Department has tightened back up on their restrictions (fact) after having loosened them a bit over the past year (fact). We also stated that US State Department has notified us (in writing) that they will not approve new export permits for SCAR rifles (fact).

We never said that this policy would be forever... or that there would NEVER be SCAR's exported to Canada... or any of the other rumours that have been springing up over the past 48 hours.

As redbirddog stated, several years ago State Department rejected all of our permit applications for COLT AR's... then about a year ago they approved a couple of small permits allowing us to import a small quantity of COLT AR's into Canada... now it appears that State Department has again put restrictions on those exports... but it would be inaccurate to say that we'll never see COLT rifles again. We simply don't know.

This same thing happened with the PS90's, FS2000 and many others. The situation is constantly changing... give it a few years and it will change again (that part seems pretty constant).

Is the part about the 16 inch barrels and flash hiders true then? Does this mean that the xcr is now done to since it has a folding stock and it looks military like? I was hoping to pick a new one up in a year or two. If flash hiders and 16 inch barrels are now forbidden i imagine that eliminates a few others rifles coming into Canada as well.

All 5.56mm firearms? So doe sthat mean ALL AR's? Or if they are marked .223 is that ok? LOL.

Would be odd to no longer be able to buy us-made AR's, but then with new Chinese imports and Canadian-made options, it might not be a big deal.

We don't have any involvement with XCR's so I have no direct first hand knowledge of how US State Department views that product... for accurate info on that topic you'd be best to contact John at Wolverine... he would be in a much better position than I would to discuss questions about that product line.

One thing you have to understand about US State Department is that they do some awfully strange things... they are NOT consistent... they change policy constantly... they don't always apply policy equally or consistently or logically.

I have literally seen two permits processed on same day where one was approved and the other was denied (yet both were the exact same item and end-user)... it was simply a matter of who happened to be processing the paperwork that day... no other explanation.

Today they are stating that a tightening of restrictions is being applied... who knows what tomorrow will bring. I expect this tightening to be across the board and to last for some time (perhaps a year or more) but that's just speculation on my part (based on my experience)... reality is that no-one knows what the future will bring... US State Department can change their mind as often as they like and whenever they like... that's the way it is.

Remember the Secretary of State (head of US State Department) serves at the pleasure of the President and that the current Secretary of State is Hillary Clinton... neither of those individuals are particularly "pro-gun" and in fact both have long records of being very anti-gun... even under Bush the US State Department was quite restrictive on firearm exports... I don't expect things to be better under the current administration.
