I'm wondering if someone can help me out or direct me to the info 'm looking for.

I am planning to do a search for a missing man in BC. I will be taking my rifle and for protection and am wondering what if any licenses or such I would need to purchase. I will not be hunting.

Thanks

If you are not hunting, you need a PAL...

As stated, you need to be sure about here you are in relation to parks. SOme parks allow firearms during hunitng season, some don't allow firearms unless in your vehicle.

BC Conservation officers are not concerned about someone wandering around the bush with a defense gun, as long as it is reasonably clear that it is for defense, and not poaching or hunting.

If you are going in Sept-Dec, you can (as a non resident) buy a non res lic and hunt for grouse wiht a shotgun and slugs, a 375, or whatever...:p

i used to work with him , and every year various groups of family members and guys from work head out into that area to see if they can find something .

Through the law enforcement grapevine the other day I heard an officer say that BC has more missing persons per capita than anywhere else in Canada...maybe we have wormhole to the Bermuda Triangle somewhere?

Until the federal licencing bit came in, one did require a permit to carry a firearm in BC, even residents. I think it was ten dollars and was good for five years. But, as everyone has said, not needed now.
I would appreciate a PM, of where you will be looking.
