New QD Mounted Lights

I'm in the market for a new QD mounted light. It's going to be for a .45 carbine but I may take the one off the AR and replace that one.

I have an Insight M6x that has work quite well but I've heard some good things about the new LED and HID's.

Aside from water/shock proof are there features that are worth considering. It's been a couple years since I've looked into anything in the way of lights for a couple years.

Good throw with sufficient spill; easy on / off (not necessarily tool-free); low weight; reliable switching; rugged housing; decent runtime; availability of holsters (if you're going to holster it), good warranty / service program (just in case).

Surefire X300 / X200, or streamlight TLR-1 / TLR-3.

If it might go on your AR, not the X200 (throw is too short). X300 is a good choice there.

Can you explain what you mean by throw is to short?

The distance that the light travels is generally referred to as "throw". As in, how far that light "throws" the beam.

Who makes HID weapon lights? Must be heavy with the battery and ballast.

As for a versatile light, you can't go wrong with SF X300/400. What is your application for the AR? Close in or distance? If you want to see something beyond 50 yards you'll need something with a larger reflector. Handgun weapon lights may not be sufficient.

It will disorient you as much as the cardboard you're pointing it at. So no.

Thanks for the info on the Wolfeyes. Has anyone mounted one of the HIDs on an AR platform? The form factor is similar to a Microfire in my collection but the body is almost 2" in diameter. Does anyone manufacture a smaller HID light?
