Was at a DU shoot in Alberta yesterday and the shoot provided all of the ammo and it was the Kent 7/8oz steel target loads. Great shooting ammo, broke targets very nicely, worked well with semi autos. 90 plus flats of it shot off. FS

Any idea of the cost, and if they make it in other gauges?:)

What were the users general thoughts about scores? If there was a noted difference was it at shorter ranges or longer ranges? How about general choke selection? Steel will probably be part of our future in the sport. Details please:D

I'll tell you what, bet you a dollar most of the folks at the shoot had no idea they were shooting steel, the boys are DU supporters not regular shooters of clay targets. Even the fellows in our squad all of which are regular shooters had no idea they were shooting steel shot. No one made any special choke adjustment and shot it as though they were shooting lead. All of the shells were provided with out their boxes ,so unless you looked closely at the shells you wouldn't have known the pellets were steel. FS

I believe that steel 12 gauge shells are less than lead right now in target loads. The load is also available in 20 gauge. FS

Any idea of an actual price? The lead Kents I bought last year are significantly higher then this year. I was quoted $80.00/250. Last year $60.00

The only thing keeping lead alive is trap and skeet.[/QUOTE]

I understand Silver Willow Sporting Clays has installed a 5 stand over water in addition to the regular clay range. I have not seen it yet, but those who have shot it say that steel is mandatory.

Steel for targets has alway been a worry for me. I am glad that no one noticed or thought it was a big deal. How did the new browning work?

I wish I could say that the new Browning POS is a great gun, but I used it at another DU fund raiser on saturday and during the 120 bird shoot I'd guess it only jammed 25 times. Used my Beretta ExremaII on sunday and it never gives me any trouble with any kind of ammo that I feed it. FS

Steel will do to our sport exactly what it did to waterfowling, make people loose interest.Think about it.Lobby against steel shot for our sport, like we should of when they were implementing it for waterfowling. And a question why are the aborignals still using lead for waterfowling? Can DU answer this?

Can't agree with ya more goozman. Many quit waterfowling once lead was outlawed...my dad included.

Well it's a shame that people quit when steel came in. It took only a little adjusting, but we're still hunting ducks and geese.

What really did steel harm was the sub standard steel ammo first brought out by manufacturers. That stuff was total crap for the lackof a better word.

First time I used steel was in 2001 I believe. Can vividly remember shooting 14 mallards and picking up only 4. Some would fly off and fold a hundred yards or so down the marsh. Others would drop in the deeks and have to be shot over four or five times before being secured.

All I can say is that todays quality notox stuff is miles ahead of the product ten years ago. Must also add that cheapo steel ammo should be outlawed as it is so very wasteful of our waterfowl resourse. Also #6 steel is a marsh hunters best friend:)!

Where does one find Kent lead target loads?

I've got a couple of cases in my safe. One case is Kent 1 1/8 oz. all purpose diamond shot, game and target shells and the other is Kent 1 oz. High Velocity diamond shot sporting clay shells. Called Diamond shot, but none the less lead.
I'm not sure what you are asking, but it sounds like you doubted Kent had lead target shells.
