So where do you guys shoot? I've been shooting some BPCR lately and need to get more practice at longer ranges. I also want to shoot my new .223 at some longer distances. My range is limited to 200 yards. Whats the best place to look for some long ranges? Polelines, Clear cuts, ask a farmer...or? I'm west of Sudbury if anyone knows some good spots.

Cheers

If its crown land, it should be legal.

Safety would be more of a concern. Are there any trails that access the line from the sides? Can it be accessed from the "downrange" side? Is there lots of "traffic" on it?

Its pretty much perfect as far as safety goes. Big mountain as a back stop, no trails coming in from the sides or running the length of it. My only concern was it being a poleline, I wasn't sure who's property it is. I see hunters along it all the time during moose/deer season but it is empty the rest of the year.

You might also be interested in firing the DCRA National Black Powder match. It is in Ottawa, Fri-Sun 13-15 August, and is fired at 200y, 300y, 500y, 600y, 700m, 800m and 900m. It is a low-key and very friendly event. As a new shooter, you would be welcomed and helped out.

I might be there...I have a friend going. Looks fun. Same friend is hosting a 100 200 300 500 yard shoot on his farm. Thats one of the reasons I posted this,,,looking for a place to sight in and practice. :)
