NC Star for SKS = CRAP

Soo here is what I got so far for the SKS:

1. NC Star = Pure Crap for scopes and mounts...honestly...dont buy it.

2. w w w.sksman.com is awesome and he has all the parts in stock..specifically the Choate Mount for SKS (side mount req drilling and tapping) and was a pleaseure to deal with! ( I bought 2 and a buttpad)

3. For you serious SKS ers...go with Teapot2 http://www.interammo.com/shop who carried the real scopes, and mounts used by the miliatry till today. More expensive...but its worth it in the end to pay for quality and not f-up your gun.

I have probably sold close to 1000 mounts, and so far I have had zero complaints on these mounts. I have had "lots" of questions on how to install them, and everyone has gone away happy after I tell them how to do it. An informed dealer goes a long way in explaining how these mounts should be installed. I have installed them on numerous SKS's as well, again with zero complaints.

They always make their mounts bigger than they have to be so the fit is firm. And not every SKS is made the same way. There are always variances in how your SKS was made. So yes, it is entirely possible the "made one way" mount you bought doesn't fit the "made a million different ways" SKS you own.

As for defective product, if your laser(s) crapped out, your dealer is required to replace it under their agreement with NC Star. If they don't, you call NC Star and complain, and their account will be pulled. This is why we're servicing "other" dealers optics now because things like this only tarnish their name. I always get the same story when I go to a gun show, and the 1 or 2 guys that come by leave happy.

Finally, a side mount tapped rail is always the best option. While I like the NC Star product, the receiver cover solution is not the best. The SKS was never made to mount a scope without modifying it. We also sell side mounting rails for the AK47 that fit perfectly on the SKS when mounted. (same goes for the CZ 858)

Most people just give up and buy a different one than having to deal with the return of a product that has been filled for hours/paint destroyed etc.. (I did)...

I'm one phonecall and one mailing away. Or, if you live in Western Canada, likely you'll catch me at a gun show. I go to most of the big 2 day ones from Red Deer to Dryden.

By the end of this year, NC Star will have culled down A LOT of dealers in Canada due to this business practice of selling the client a product and leaving him out to dry, and they will be concentrating on their dealers that deliver results on the service side.

We will on our new ecommerce site. It will be around $50.00, but it will require you to drill 2 holes in the mount, and 2 holes in the receiver. We've forwarded a plan to NC Star to make something slightly different that will already be pre-drilled and have less parts on it. It won't be as pretty as it would be on an AK47, but it works, and allows you to put a scope on a CZ or 858 and keep it at zero between cleanings.

Shipping a receiver to the US is out of the question.

Don't tell me that you did that, drilling and tapping a receiver is actually easy but you need the proper tools (like drill press).

BTW sksman is not a sponsor here.

If it's not possible to do installation locally, you always can ship a receiver/rifle to us (Edmonton). We will install.

You are right, it's easy. Drill press, drill bit, tap with handle, center punch, hammer, and hex (allen) key are needed for job. Clamp or vise grip pliers would help to mark holes. Our side rails come with 8-32 hex socket screws. We are planning to offer an installation kit (drill bit, tap, and allen key ) in near future.
 
Back when I had an SKS I had good luck with a scout mount that replaced the rear site...it was quite solid w/ some loctight. I cant remember where I got it tho.

Interesting, users bashing dealers.

If you have a service, product problem or issue with NC Star, I formally offer my services to rectify your problem. It's in my best interest as their 3rd largest dealer in Canada to do so. They won't have a problem me doing it either.

Hit an miss is so true with their products. I bought 2 r-mounts last year. Gave one to my friend. I had nothing but troubles with mine, the one I gave to him installed like it was made for his rifle, no filing, sanding or pounding on it with a hammer. I've had two scopes from them and I still use them. They work great.

Installed one of these on my current SKS, loved it so much I sent my rear site to Niet Arms to get Fibre Optics installed like the ones they make for the 858.

I have a pistol scope on my 858 and love it. That is why I was wondering.
 
Just to put this out there but this thread was not to bash anyone. Just posting my bad experience with what I believe is a sub par product.

If your going to make a product, make it right. If you have to modify or file it or call the Dealer or Manufacturer back its a painful experience. It wastes time and people get pissed off. The result is we dont buy that product anymore.

At a closer examination of the NC Star Mount, the issue was not in the front of the mount which they tell you to file.
The issue was in the rear hole where the bolt goes through. The little pin slot is angled the wrong way not allowing the pin to go through and the mount itself is not milled or cut to the right shape to allow the bolt to slide freely back and fourth, wrecking the finish on the bolt.

But thanks to the great feedback and dealers on this site, I was set up with a quality product at a great price and no issue which means I ll buy from that guy again and that product.:)
