I thought so as well. And I would even consider myself one of the HK coolaid drinkers owning 3 HKs myself.

Phil, there is a bastardized civi version of the 416 called the MR223 or something like that. Several of the site sponsors at the top of the page have them. Upper is not AR15 interchangeable.
The actual 416 lowers are prohib/full-auto. You can import real 416 uppers, but it will require effort/research and a s**tload of $$$.
Edit: Oh and theres also supposed to be a semi-auto only version of the 416 at some point... but who knows if/when they would ever get around to it.

Hardly bastardized my friend! No full auto/missing a few trades and no inter changeability with other AR rifles = who cares!
My point was more that asking for a 7.62mm Hk417 or MR308 or MR762 was not really going to go very well.
The Hk416 is not Hk's best gun, and frankly if they ever bring out a steel/aluminum chassis G36 a lot of gun companies are in trouble
