I just bought a .22 single shot, peep sight Ranger Model 35 that has Made in USA stamped on it. No other markings, no serial number. The Canadian Firearms Centre have named it a Cooey. I doubt Cooey ever made rifles in the USA. Did they ever market American made firearms?

Yes, but the Winchester Cooeys were not marked "Made in USA".

1,000,000 or so rifles and shotguns......They said all kinds of stuff.

Lots of no-name .22's have been made in the last 100 years...... it could be anything. Just 'cause the CFC says it's a Cooey, doesn't make it so.

I don't think it is a Cooey, but the Firearms Centre folks say it is. I just thought they might know something I don't know. I believe the Winchester Cooeys were all made in Canada. All the Cooeys I have had, Winchester or earlier, were all made in Cobourg Ontario. It also cocks on closing. I've never seen a single shot Cooey that did.

cooey made 22's called rangers for eatons or sears I can't remember. When it was registered someone at the cfc probably heard the name ranger and assumed it was a cooey. It might be a savage that was made for eatons or sears after the cooey contract run up and they stayed with the ranger name.

Ranger

The model, RANGER, was produced by J. Stevens Arms Company, and is also a trade name for Sears Roebuck rifles.

Post some Pictures!

I found the following reference on the Internet:

I bought a Ranger 22 LR when I was in the Air Force, in Lubbock, Tx. The rifle shoots straight and there were no serial number or model number.

I called around to every manufacturer in 1989 and Winchester Arms told me to contact Marlin, which I did.

The lady from Marlin said the rifles were made by Marlin for sale by Sears, Roebuck &Co. from the 1920's-1960.
