Savage or Tikka Hunting rifle?

Thanks for the awesome info so far.

One thing, I read somewhere that the synthetic stock on the Tikka is a little cheaper made than the others. Is this true?

I like the metal mag on the Savage but gun shops say the plastic mag on the Tikka are no problems, or are they saying that for sale purposes?

Also Tikka comes in Camo/stainless which I love, but not necessary. Wow, this is harder to decide than I thought but you people are making it easier.

Don't fear the plastic mag on the tikka's. Its well made and functions 100%. Time will tell, but I think it will last a long time. As for the plastic stock, I think its better than what came with my savage. Its much stiffer plastic. The savage forend is very flexible.
 
Modern plastic/polymer mags are better than metal mags for hunting use and abuse IMHO. They need do rustproofing or even lube. The material already has high lubricity. They never dent or get distorted. The feed lips may bend but return to the original position. If you broke one you were doing something where you deserved it to happen. Steel mags get very frosty on a cold day of sitting in a blind or tree stand. If you tough out -20*C all day and rip off your glove to make a shot, miss a few but have time to reload, that steel mag may just stick to your hand! An exaggeration but plastic doesn't get the same "frosty" feel. Polymer flashlights are a great example.

Never pass up a good rifle because it has ploymer mags!

What is your assessment of the accustock? Is it comparable to a glass bedding stock from a gunsmith?

redundancy be damned, it all comes down to fit. I bought a savage american classic and later a sako a7. Both are great guns but fit very differently. The sako is very similar to a tikka and fits me better. The savage is wood and steel and has a much more solid, satisfying feel in the hands. The savage shoots 180gr bullets, at least the prvi partizen I tried, very accurately but I havent tried the sako yet... should be similar... better be!
They're both great guns but the one that fits you is the better one especially if you need to be able to make quick snap shots at game.
As for the long savage action, when I took the scope off the savage 114 for the sako I needed to use the same millet extension rings to get the same (bushnell 4200 3x9( scope back far enough for a comfortable fit, much to my surprise.
Bottom line is ignore the handling dvice at your peril.

I just went through this same problem, of trying to decide what gun to buy. I looked at the Tikka, Brownings, Sako, Rems, and the Savage. Price was not a huge factor, since all but the Sako were about the same price. I ended up comparing features, and quality of build materials. I chose and ordered a Savage Weather Warrior in .300 mag. It came with a nice detachable magazine, and with the addition of the accustock, and accutrigger, as well as a nice recoil pad, I felt that it was a no brainer. It seems to fit me perfect as well. I can't wait to get it. I bought it from Epps, and they had to order from the factory, since they did'nt have the model that I wanted in stock. I hope its worth the wait.
 
Which ever fits you best will work fine.
I have 2 Tikka and 2 Savage
Both synthetic stock are cheap junk IMO, put a limbsaver recoil pad on either one. Savage action, magazine not as smooth, I like Tikka trigger. They all shoot good groups.
I personally would go with a Tikka Hunter stainless = Nice wood stock with stainless barrel.
You will not go wrong whichever way you go. Have fun.
