We have received a written decision on the classification of the SIG 522 rifle and it is not what we had all hoped for...

The SIG SAUER model 522 was found to be a variant or modified version of a SIG, Model 550 rifle under the Regulations appended to The Criminal Code of Canada S.84 Part 1 Prohibited Firearms, Former Prohibited Weapons Order No 13 (para 83), The firearm of the design commonly know as the SG-550 rifle, and any variant or modified version of it.

The SIG SAUER, model 522, 22 LR calibre Rifle is a prohibited firearm.​

An FRT# has been issued but will take 24 to 48 hours to become active (visible) on-line for business license holders.

We are reviewing their decision and considering a legal challenge. We believe that the basis for the decision is little more than appearance and commonality of furniture parts (stock, handguard, grip) and would therefore be affected by the outcome of the Henderson case. If the Henderson decision is upheld at appeal then we think that this decision can be reversed.

In the meantime there will obvioiusly be no SIG 522's available for commercial sale here in Canada.

still cannot figure out how a blowback,striker fired rimfire, can ever be called or labeled a variant of a hammer fired, centerfire, gas operated, rifle!

What I find is variant var·i·ant (vâr'ē-ənt, vār'-)
n. Something that differs in form only slightly from something else.

Are they going by visual form?

####ing retarded, I said this would happen in other treads but no one believed me. Anyhow no point in dwelling on this. If you do put up a legal fight count me in for $100, it ain't a lot but I'm sick and tired of this ####. Setup something like we had for Henderson and I'll start sending you cash!

No you said it would restricted in other threads and no one believed you. It is prohibited as others had said was possible in the other threads.

It is a principle of administrative law that under the duty of fairness, which extends whenever a government official makes a decision that affects a right, privilege or interest, that said decision be accompanied by the written reasons for that decision.

If they have not sent such reasons, that alone is likely to warrant at least a rehearing of the issue.

This is especially true where there is a statutory right of appeal, as there is under s. 74 of the firearms act.
