Affordable handgun case?

Hi, i'm getting more and more handgun and my carrying case can only carry 2 :) So i were wondering what would be affordable here in canada? I'm looking for a pistol case like the pelican or just a standard aluminum case that i could fit 4-6 handguns in (if i could add pluck foam to put them vertically like in the pelican case, would be great). So, does anyone know where i could find something like this in canada, also, is there good pluck foam supplier around? ps: affordable would be below 100$ price range...

i was thinking about this recently, and i'm wondering if the pro-audio cases would be good. they tend to have a variety of shapes and sizes, typically good hardware and made to take a beating. places like Steve's Music or Long & McQuade or something like that.
 
Garage sales and second hand thrift stores are a good source for cheap cases that you will then need to pad with foam.

Computer bags, briefcases, luggage etc.
 
Just go to WallyMart and get one of the aluminum tool cases 16 by 25 inch size and some foam. Good for 4 at least, and you might be able to double layer it. They are now under $20. I've used several for many years.
 
I've been using a Samsonite combination locking briefcase I picked up at a yard sale and some egg crate foam for the past 20 years (can hold 3 handguns comfortably and 4 in a pinch)...I also bought a slightly smaller combination locking aluminum briefcase (two handguns) on eBay a while back (less than 40 shipped w/foam) for an extra but haven't needed it so I use it to store my mags. The combo locks on both are pretty whimpy but they do the job for transportation to the range and back. I definitely wouldn't recommend this setup for long term storage.
 
Hi, thank you very much for your answers, i actually have one of these tool case from wal-mart (bought it from a guy who sold me a handgun) so he already had pluck foam in it and added dividers so i can add shooting range accessories in it so it can only contain 2 handguns (not double layered though, i think i'll check how i can work this out), anyone know how to cut a straight line into foam? (to double layer it) and also, where can i find cheap gray/black foam? And i checked on wal-mart website and there is not a toolcase available in any stores around me (so as the site say...) do you know if you can call them and have them ordered, the only one i've seen around here are 45$+tx at canadian tire, no foam. And are they really 20$ and under? :O

I found that the best way to cut foam is with an electric carving knife - the kind with 2 blades going back and forth. If you want to get really precise I've heard of guys making a "hot wire" cutter with piano wire and a small transformer or car battery charger (google is your friend). Camera stores like Henry's are a good place to get all sizes of aluminum cases, but you'll be spending some money.
 
i'm guessing a hot wire would be good for cutting foam. depends on how risky you're feeling, though!
 
Go to a foam shop where they sell different foams and have equipment for cutting.... it might not be all that expensive for the small amount you need.

You also source some camping foam and make the insert by stacking layers untill you reach the thickness you desire.
Make a template out of cereal box cardboard and trace your cut outs onto each layer of foam, cut and stack. When you are satisfied with the design a bit of contact glue will hold it all together.

I looked for them there, but everything was plastic or canvas. I considered going to a camera store, but never got around to it.

I ended up getting this from Bass Pro Shop:

I think it's their 4 pistol case (18" x 13" x 5"), for about $55 before tax.
 
I use the Wally World $20 electrician's case that has been mentione before, but I use pisotl rugs inside of it; it will hold 4 no problem that way and the slotted board on top can hold up to 13 double stack 9mm mags.

Once upon a time, I was where you were. I thought I needed a dedicated case for everything I owned.

The problem is - because of low-life crackhead issues - it's really best if firearms are stored within a safe or vault. You really don't want to store firearms in the same case you transport them in, because of heat and cold and condensation issues. And, as your accumulation of guns and magazines and required peripherals grows, you'll soon find that you don't want to take all of the same things each time you go shooting, either. Instead, you'll come to learn, you need an ability to transport various items depending upon your agenda that day.

I suggest that you get:

1. a safe or vault for home storage, and;

2. a number (E.G.: 2+) of single-pistol rugs (or cases) that are both large enough to accommodate one (combination) trigger-locked handgun and which are lockable with a small (combination) padlock, and;

3. a bag, box, or case (E.G.: a range bag; a backpack; a purse; a gym bag; etc.) for transport that is both large enough to accommodate your single-pistol rug(s) - along with whatever else you will need that day - and which is lockable with a small (combination) padlock.

You can store your firearms in your safe. When you pack for transport to the range you put a triggerlock on the pistol, you put the pistol in a single-pistol rug (or case) and lock that, and then put the locked rug(s) or case(s) in the larger bag, box, or case, and - finally - lock that.

Such an arrangement will be versatile both now and into the future, and it will be less expensive, lighter in weight, and much lower in profile.
 
Hi, thank you very much, actually i pretty much have all of this (safe+carrying case+ammo carrying case) but like i said earlier, i'm expanding my gun number so i (need/want) another carrying case, i got my eyes on the pelican universal 4-6 handgun case but can't afford it so i am looking for a similar case to put pluck foam in it... if there is anything like it in canada, would be great if not, then i guess i'm gonna go looking around for used cases...

got enough layers of locks there? obv, there's still the locked truck while en route to the range...



try not to lose your keys.
 
I am like Wendell; other than the safes, all the locks are combo. All you need to do is go to the range once and forget yuor keys and you will want combo locks too. For pistol range use, I carry the hangduns in the Wally World aluminum case in pistol rugs as mentioned before, and I have a Stanley contractors tool box with wheels and a pull handle for the rest (500-1000 rounds of ammo, holsters, mag pouches, Maglula Uplula mag loader, speed loaders, speed loader block, sun screen, Purel, first aid kit, screwdriver set, hex keys, gun cleaning kit put together by me, squib rod and plastic mallet, tape for patching holes, extra batteries for ears, and other things I have forgotten). I keep my eyes and ears in the car at all times in a bag with shooting gloves and a log book where I track how many rounds from waht was fired, and other info if I am RSO that day. That is just the gear for the pistol range.
