How do "revolver" shotguns (ex. Rossi Judge Circuit) fit into shotgun plug laws?

How do "revolver" shotguns (ex. Rossi Judge Circuit) fit into shotgun plug laws?

EDIT - Read the whole post. I have no intention of waterfowl hunting with this gun.

As we all know, repeating shotguns are limited to 2+1 shells for migratory bird hunting, and provincially as well for all hunting dependent on province. How does a Revolving shotgun such as the new Rossi/Taurus Circuit Judge, which fires both .410 and .45 colt ammunition fit into the laws? If im not mistaken, it can hold 5 rounds, and as far as I know is unplugable. If you can even get these Canada. I have no intentions of ever waterfowl hunting with one, but I believe it would be an awesome grouse gun.

Ontario says 3 in the gun for hunting anything. If you wanted to hunt with that you'd have to figure out a way of plugging it. Mind you, they didn't exist when the decision was made.
 
I'd bet my bottom dollar that it'd be classified as restricted even if it were available.

I don't think it SHOULD be, but in my heart I know the Gestapo WILL do it...

Since it only holds 5 rounds, it should be NR with an 18.5" barrel or more. As for the OP's question I imagine the laws regarding capacity limits while hunting still apply.

It should be non-restricted if the overall length is greater than 26".
5 round capacity and 18 1/2" barrel aren't factors.

If it were necessary, it would be easy enough to plug two chambers.

This kind of common sense was also applied to the M&P15-22, and the SIG522...

... oh, wait... no it wasn't.

I agree with you, but recent cases of RCMP bullsh*t tell me they'll screw us over for anything they can - especially since the LGR may soon bite the dust.

It is a semi-auto centerfire. If it held any more than 5 rounds it would be prohib. Also needs an 18.5" barrel to be NR. Unless I am missing something here...?
 
You pull the trigger and a round is discharged without the need to operate any other mechanism to fire another round. Except the trigger of course. That is semi-auto AFAIK.

Ignore Ontario hunting regulations, they look like have been written by a 12 years old. The actual law says 3 shells per shotgun when loaded (any shotgun), so if you have a 4 barrel shotgun, I guess you have to plug a barrel.

By that definition, an over-under shotgun is also semi-automatic.

The revolver gets its own action class. It's a double-action/single-action revolver-rifle.

I once fired a .357 magnum revolver with the barrel resting between a vee made with my boots on a bench while sitting in a chair. I was experimenting with different firing positions trying to get the best accuracy. (Anybody who ever fired a revolver knows what's coming next) The burning gasses that shoot out from between the front of the cylinder and the back of the barrel got me. Nothing serious but it got my attention none the less. I can only imagine what firing this gun would do to your fore arm. :eek:

Just going by the pic above, looks like there's a sliding gas shroud to protect the shooter. That would be the notch at the back of the forearm, and the metal flange at the front of the cylinder, I'm sure that's the purpose of those.

I would hope thats what those are and they have thought of this because otherwise the shooter is going to be real sad after the first shot.

As far as the rules, I think its classified as a rifle not a shotgun so the shotgun limits don't apply, but i guess if your using as a shotgun solely you may run into trouble. Best bet is to call the MNR and ask.
 
You could just put snap caps in two of the chambers to block the capacity to 3 rounds total. I don't see this as being much different from a tube magazine being blocked with a length of dowel, a plastic plug, or something similar.

A double action revolver isn't semiautomatic because the action is still manually cycled when the trigger is pulled.
 
Couldn't you just put snap caps in the chambers not in use? Seems simple enough solution to make it a 2 or 3 round capacity shottie.
