DATELINE: MOSCOW May 7

Russian state corporation Rostekhnology, established in late 2007 to facilitate development, production and export of hi-tech industrial products for civilian and military purposes, has made the decision to concentrate its production of firearms at the Izhmekh(Baikal) and Izhmash plants, Rostekhnology General Director Sergei Chemezov said.

“We have decided to switch military production to the city ofIzhevsk, Izhmekh and Izhmash, and we will re-orient the Molot company,” Chemezov told Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

Molot (based in Vyatskiye Polyany), Izhmekh and Izhmash make the same products as part of Rostekhnologii corporation, he said.

“This amount of similar products is too much,” Putin remarked.

“We can’t get enough orders for all three companies,” Chemezov said. “Therefore, we will set up a center for firearms disposal. Also, talks are under way to set up a joint venture with Italy’s Beretta, which plans to set up, hopefully early next year, a joint venture to make hunting and sport weapons ,and pistols for police and special services,” he said.

These products will be exported, including to countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and sold in Russia, Chemezov said

I am not holding my breath, but it could happen.
The firearms may be sold under the Beretta name or under a diferent name(something like the Stoeger brand).

The Shotguns (and rifles) made by Molot in Russia have never been imported to our shores. I have seen them overseas. They are better finished and cost more than your average Baikal or Toz . The shottys are sold under the BEKAS name while the rifles are named VEPR.

Now here is the interesting part.
Below are released photos of their freshly developped new generation semiauto with a detachable magazine. Called TUCAN, it has not been released to the market yet....Maybe coming under the Beretta name??????

I wonder about that. The semi-auto is very reminiscent of early 300 series Berettas. Of course it is possible the Russians came up with a very similar design, one that even looks remarkably the same on their own. I mean it could happen. Right?

The wood on that pump looks pretty good. I wonder how the mag would work for hunting, seems it would be even slower than a tube mag.

Two of my friends have been shooting Beretta knock offs for a couple years and they
have been nothing but trouble.
