hi

not sure which section this should be in but this seems the most appropiate.

i just bought a 597 vtr and have the common problem which i believe is caused by the guide rails. ive read the other threads about fixing it but cant find the exact one to fix it.
forgive the lack correct lingo but i'll try to explain the problem... the problem is the bullet will not go into the chamber, when the bullet comes out of the magazine the back of bullet rests in the pre made grove on the bolt. this is positioned in a way that wont allow the bullet to go straight into the chamber and instead forces it to go in at an angle, so cannot go fully in.

can someone give a rundown of how to fix this problem, ive stripped the rifle all the way, apart from the grip as dont have the right tool to get it off but will get it tomorrow,

or can anyone recommend a good gun smith who would be able to fix this problem in the Toronto area.

thanks a lot

Take it into Epp's. As it sounds like the magazine is not sitting in the reciever properly. There fore not allowing the bolt to strip rounds of the mag properly.

Are you useing the factory 30 round mag of the 10rd mag.
If you are havign this problem bring it back to Epps and have them send it to Gravel , which is Remington canada.
They have a 48hr turn around time on most issues .

Is it happening with the first round in a full 10rnd mag? The mag spring can be very stiff and can prevent the round from being fed. If it sound like it try with only 9 rnds and it after about 200 round the mag should fed ok with 10. It worked for me and not a problem since.

thanks for the reponses all,
i took it to al faharty who said could not fix it, then called the one in king city who said fully booled till the end of the year... wow!!

anyway, i ended up getting it working, after going right down to the bare bones i noticed that the bullet would not even go into the chamber with me pushing it in straight and when it did would scratch it all up. so at closer examination i noticed there was metal fragments which had not been machined out. i carefully did a quick file and a good cleaning and solved the problems. while i was at it also lubricated all the main components. seem to be fine now, havre not fired it so cant guarantee whether it will have ejection issues but we will see.

thanks for the suggestions.
p.s. i am only using the stock 10 rnd mag. i read the magazines were a problem so that was my initial thought.
